SJU vs Pitt Game Thread

NIT means nothing. It's an embarrassment if anything. This is a team with great recruits, and a great coach in the basketball mecca of the world on the biggest stage. We deserve MUCH better. This program has been terrible for too long. Just when you think things are due to change finally, they revert to how things have been. All the top level NYC talent leaves us in the dust (except Harkless) for teams like Pitt, UConn, Cuse, Cincy, etc. Just another team that flirts with you then rips your heart out. Unless Sanchez somehow gets cleared for next year, Harrison improves DRAMATICALLY, and Hooper is the real deal, then I'm not even confident we make the tourney next year either.

This team doesn't deserve anything. Success comes from dedication and discipline, from the players and the staff.

Being in NY means nothing.

Local recruits don't get highly ranked because they hardly get watched by the analysts who do the rankings because they don't watch local games. They watch prep schools and AAU invitational tournaments.

Woodall had a great game because he is a Senior and he plays under control. Just like Dwight Hardy did. D'Angelo has a lot to learn about playing that kind of way. Unfortunately for us, he is not a leader on the court. Maybe he grows up to be one.

NO MORE TOURNEY TALK PLEASE ITS VERY EVIDENT WE ARE NOT GETTING IN. I WONDER WHAT SEED WE WILL GET NIT WISE ANY THOUGHTS I SAY A 5

an you stop typing in all CAPS? By the way, I saw you mention something about someone being a moron. Look in the mirror. i did i saw your refleCtion.

Add something to the board, other than being a jerk.
listen ill write what i want we are not making the tourney deal with it . thats what i feel and in not saying otherwise so you will feel better. feel free not to answer me if it bothers you.

Write what you wanna and deal with it, huh? Big, bad, and tough on the internet. LOL

I can deal with us not making the NCAA Tournament. I won't lose any sleep. I also do not care what you feel either. Frankly, you've yet to add anything of worth to the board since you've been posting. You're either typing or shall I say, 'screaming' while spewing a bunch of overly-emotional rubbish.

I'll still stand by comment that you're a jerk.

A high IQ point guard (whatever that is) to do what, exactly? To play man instead of zone? To look at the other team's stats and tape, realize that they have one offensive threat and take him out of the game instead of letting him go for a season high? To put Bourgault in the game down 14 under 5 minutes instead of Obekpa? To design and run plays that don't exist? To get D'Angelo to be a team player?

The fact is that there is plenty of talent on this team. In fact substantially more talent than Pitt. We didn't lose the game because Phil didn't play well at the point. In fact he was our best player today. The game was lost because we played a team that has a system, runs it well, and took advantage of every mistake we made. It was well-prepared for the zone and sliced it up every time we showed it.

It is great that we bring in talented athletes. It is true that some of them do not have high basketball IQs. But at the end of the day, that isn't why this game and a few other winnable games went south.

I've noticed that D'Angelo doesn't play well at MSG. I thought Lavin stubbornly left him in too long.

Lavin needs a high IQ PG to have any success with his style of play.

A high, IQ point guard is needed. He may be able to allow the team to play smarter.

And how many scoring opportunities did we miss by Phil running into the lane and then just stopping the ball?

A high IQ PG is needed because we don't run much, if any, designed plays. Until Lavin puts in plays, that is what we need.

Winning on talent alone is not sustainable at all. Our worst losses come against teams that know how to execute. We don't.

i say what i believe anyone who thinks this team is winning the last three games needs a shrink. this team is going to nit ill put my money down for anyone willing to take that bet . im sure no one will step up and take it

No one will step up and aknowledge you, let alone take you up on a bet. Has your intense basketball masterbation reached a climax for you yet? Jesus, Mary, and all that is holy what is the point to pound your chest after we lose. I am teetering on banning myself because we have too many fans who would rather us lose and say "I told you so" than have this team go ona liftle run and make the NCAA's and be proven wrong.

Congrats, you are right.

There are other reasons why we have trouble (ie, not enough basketball players), but a good, smart PG can hide some defenciencies. Pitt usually plays smart, and they are also usually veteran-laden.

Hard to deny that this is a very poor coached team. Whether it be that they refuse to listen to Lavs or he is just not taking the right approach.

It has been terribly frustrating. Just as it is frustrating to hear that SJU is the 7th winningest program in college bb history (when I was there it was #4).

But, that's what happens when you go on a 10+ year tailspin. We are reeling, and trying to get out of it, and with some success. But, in this day and age, it is more and more competitive and more and more difficult to do so.

But, I still like the core of this team, and think it can have 2 very good years to come. I think CO will only get better, Harrison and Sampson too. Branch will help when healthy and here for a full year. I am not even counting on Sanchez (a pipe dream). There are many talented and athletic guys that will compliment them.

This is the situation we're in. Maybe a new dynamic will form with the new league, I don't know.

I don't think the PG is our biggest need. I think a big bulky rebounding inside presence is.

This might be nit-picking, but Woodall is actually a 5th year senior.

The funny thing about this post, Kranmars, and I agree with you 100 percent, btw, is how many of these people actually thought we were a Top 68 team before the season started? After we lost to SF? After we lost to UNC-Ashville? After we lost to Rutgers at MSG? These same people screaming about how crappy we are and how "embarrassing" the NIT is are the people who seem to have these lofty unrealistic expectation themselves.

I'm a Mets, Jets, Islanders, SJU and Tottenham fan. For those of you crying about, "poor me, my teams suck..." Grow up. Go root for Syracuse or Duke. I didn't get the chance to watch the game, I had to follow it on my phone while out with my family, so I stupidly decided to go through the game thread to get some inkling of an idea of how the game "really" went. Some of you would be hilarious, if you weren't so sad.

A good p.g. isnt going to help us that much unless he's the next derrick rose or john wall. i think Dlo has hit his prime like dj kennedy in his sophmore year. he is what he's always going to be. i dont think his game will be any different two years from now

wrong you just did. also its not about being right homer its about seeing the truth this team is not good enough.

Its not our biggest need once Branch comes back, but right now it is IMO.

See this post here? This is a good example of how to criticize an aspect of our loss without sounding like an whiny, over-emotional complainer. Harrison has to learn from this season if we are to be a clear cut Tourney team.

At 16-10 going into today, with no real eye-popping wins, it was a BIG stretch to think we were a top 68 team. A real stretch. A win today wouldn't have guaranteed anything.
I know I'm going to sound like a "loser" but if we don't perform in the BE Tourney, I'd rather play in the NIT and make a run in that tourney. I know....I'm a real loser.

Are you here to try to prove you have the biggest johnson by saying the same thing over and over (about the team not being good)? That is how your posts are coming off. You're proving one thing.... You're proving you are the biggest johnson.

Where did kransmars hint at anything about being a homer? Comprehend what you're reading. You're not saying anything other than your over-the-top/overly-emotion opinion. Seriously, what are you trying to prove here?
