SJU Practices & Player Development

Few things I've heard past weeks from my guys on the team..
Brady is really really good, like surprisingly good and the kids love him. He wil have his moments this yr but he's a player down the rd
Zuby and Chris have an edge. They're will be some physical moments this yr. The stuff you hear about Joel from coach isn't skill or even fitness it's underlying message is toughness. Real toughness.. abd he's getting there
Simon is a talent but be patient with him
Luis is a star. Star.
Taylor a steady smart influence
Team has really good players.... question asked is ( although I think they already know, as do players) who are crunch time 5 and who gets shot at end of the game.

Excellent stuff as usual SJU79 👏

Easy to forget about Taylor, there has been very little chatter about him.

Also I believe( sorry if I'm wrong) the schools website will be releasing a video featuring Jordan today or tomorrow ... i encourage you all to watch it if you get the chance. He's a terrific, thoughtful young man who will represent the university well. He absolutly cares about the people within the program as well as the fans as those of you who've had the chance to interact with him can attest to

Had a nice little conversation with him on the autograph signing day. He was very open to talk to me.

From what I observed this past Saturday, I agree about Brady’s and Simon’s talent, and, Zuby’s and Ledlum’s toughness. Dingle gets the shot at the end of the game.

I have never seen Dingle play but a friend who’s basketball knowledge is off the charts has and raved about the fact that he not only can get his shot by himself he can get a GOOD shot by himself. He loves (who doesn’t) that late game intersection of poise, intelligence and ability and he assures me Dingle has it.

In crunch time, that is an incredibly important quality that we haven't had since Ponds (like him or not). I think him and Jenkins will be the guys with the ball in their hands under 2 minutes.

going to be nice to see basketball plays develop and make because of smart basketball players.

If he doesn’t average 18 points, I will be absolutely shocked. He can score off the bounce in a variety of ways on his own or with screens, he looks great in the pick and roll, his midrange is outstanding, and he looks great when he’s given the ball heading to the rim back door, off cuts, or just hi-low. And obviously he is a very good spot up shooter. He can score every way imaginable. The jump in competition won’t be a big factor for him based on what I’ve seen.

I predict 18.6 points and 3.1 assists a game (to be as precise as possible 😁) I think he’ll touch 40 once…30 a few times.

His defense was nonexistent at Penn, but somewhat understandable. That has to change with Pitino and it obviously will. I still don’t expect him to be one of our top 3 backcourt defenders.

Good point on defense; FWIW my buddy shared that unless that improves he expects Pitino to play offense/defense down the stretch with Dingle.

I always reserve judgement on players until we play top competition. High D1 teams are bigger, faster, and more skilled. In mid major competition you have more time to shoot, defenders aren't as long, and overall are quicker better athletes. Then there's the mental aspect of excelling against better competition. Lots of guys have made the transition from mid majors all the way to the NBA. But until they actually perform well here at this level, questions will remain.

That being said, I love the enthusiasm here and respect the expertise here concerning certain players excelling at this level.

By Nov 20th, we will all know a lot more.

I'm surprised we haven't heard more about Dingle since many considered him our best transfer by far.

Maybe Rick is trying to screw up all the potential early scouting reports.

speaking of "haven't heard".... Haven't heard ANYthing regarding Glen Taylor.... P5 double digit scoring transfer (albeit a bad team)... 0 mention of him....

Our PG & a leader

In watching the Pitino presser from media day the best thing I heard was him talking about how hard these guys work and what truly “good” kids they are. I know coaches can be hyperbolic but that was music to my ears. Sure talent is important but good talented kids pulling together can go far. He’s coached a lot of teams so he should know.

There are a few guys not just him that haven’t been talked about much. . One of the reasons why is one of the only true insiders here that goes to practice is Panther and he’s openly said each day he’s gone ( and that’s a lot ) is a different guy has stepped up that day.. Rutgers is going to be an amazing test of where we are much better than our first couple games. Tons of time to correct stuff and I’m a slower start guy anyway.
