SJU Offseason Thread (portal and recruiting discussions)

Definitely not. Putting together a talented team who will run an NBA offense. Not relying on a blue blooded point guard.
We should all be jumping for joy. We have Ian Jackson!!!! It’s all good.
Here’s the next guard possible priority interests as I see it:
1. Acaden Lewis
2. Mystery Euro Combo Guard
3. Mid major exclusive PG.
I think CRP really wants Acaden. Why? CRP realizes that we need some roster continuity.
Lewis would be playing quality minutes in basketball’s mecca of MSG, all while learning under the Master. Then the car keys are given to Acaden for his sophomore year.
And I know, CRP doesn’t want a freshman, but I’m just giving a reminder that he’s a 5th year HS player.
CRP wouldn’t waste his energy on a recruit unless he thought he could play.
I have a Villanova grad daughter, it’s a beautiful place for 4 years and a degree
Players now want money, opportunity, development and exposure (which comes from winning).
Now the closing argument: CRP or Willard?
I’m hoping it will be Lewis.
CRP is always closing.

From everything I’ve read, we are priced out on Lewis

Zach saying in on Mitchell and the other guard will be a 6th/7th guard type.

At this point, I’m hoping we go all in on Mitchell. We need his defense and length to balance the roster. If he’s our second best defender he would play a ton. With our current roster (of mainly offensive players) and our switching defense, I don’t see how Rick takes him off the court. Maybe just at the very end of games (to avoid him getting fouled).

It might even be better to start him and bring Sanon or Sellers off the bench as the 6th man scorer. With Sim and Glover gone and Jackson set to start at PG, we don’t really have much scoring punch off the bench. It also gives us some insurance for Bryce and another athlete to help get easy buckets in transition.

Agree 100%. Acaden Lewis can learn as Jackson back-up and be a starter the following season.

Do you think they will have 13 players on scholarship next year?
Mitchell would be huge he is a player that teams need to be successful. Rebound, and defensive capabilities. Hopefully he can improve his foul shooting.
Probably not on FTs based on his history, but good far outweighs bad with Dillon bringing D, rebounding, running the court and great athleticism to the table.
