SJU Loses Keegan's Support

If mr Darby was fired for silly reasons shouldn't that be aired, honestly in the world of pr sju golf is Keegan Bradley, it's a big blow without his support, I think it's better we know what happened?

I agree and I think Keegan should speak out to make his voice heard.

Thanks for the information posted. It seems reasonable and sounds legitimate. Keegan was such a great ambassador for the school, it's really sad that he's now at odds with SJU. I'm a little torn about this. I don't like the concept of alumni who are big donors having a say in the running of a university, but unfortunately, that's the way the world works. On the other hand, Keegan may have a perfectly legitimate beef with Monasch, and publicly pulling his support is within his discretion.

I'd hope keegan get's to know Mal a little because if he did he'd like him

There is also one more big donor that stepped away from Athletics Dept. Mr. Vitamin Water honcho has donated this year as well as last year but $0.0 to Athletics.

I've always found this concept interesting - benefactors such as the church, universities, or charities such as Red Cross allowing donors to earmark donations for a particular purpose. In reality it's largely symbolic if you can imagine all donations going into a big bucket that serves an enterprise's overall mission. It's done to allow donors to feel a measure of control over the outcome of money they are donating.

Therein lies the problem. Big donors are often given some sort of control over decision making in those organizations. For example our BOT helped select a new unversity president, and recommended removal of Harrington. They are largely comprised of very wealthy and successful people, but their expertise is not education. In the case of Mr. Vitamin water, he has no particular experience in athletics, but obviously it is within his discretion not to support an athletic department he's not happy with. We think as fans that we control decisions such as the hiring and firing of coaches, but in reality it's the big donors who can direct decision based on their financial support or lack thereof.

As much as I like Keegan, I don't understand his beef with the school. He went to school to play golf, but if facilities and all that were so important to him, why on earth would he choose a school in NYC??? He wanted better practice facilities? What did he want the school to do, build a freakin golf course on campus?

If he wanted the best of the best when it came to his sport, he should have went somewhere down south, where the weather and land availability is much more accommodating.

This would be like me going to the university of Texas, and then being upset that their bobsled facilities are not up to par (no pun intended).

Jumbo, I agree with everything you said, but it was great seeing a guy who does so well on the tour
being proud enough to have our logo on his bag and he always talked up his experience at
St. John's.

For the record and FWIW, Keegan replaced the SJU logo with The Boston Red Sox logo on his bag well before Darbs was let go.

Mr google for those new to the story what is the absurd claim being lodged against mr Darby by the sju golfer?

It's Keegan's fault that Darby was fired. Messed with his mojo by use of the Bosox logo. That's also why he has been playing below his potential.

I think someone from the school administration should reach out to Keegan and try to get him back into the fold. He is great PR for the school, and we can use all we can get.

This is weird no one is telling the real story why a a defending big east champion golf coach was fired? What did Mr Darby allegedly do to warrant a firing ? How bad is the skeleton?

From what I understand, it was one of those things where the university didn't have much of a choice.

As long as he wears red and white on Sundays, St John's will continue to get PR
