I just told a poster a week ago to expect the Johnnies to target a JUCO or two for '15. Efianayi was one of 'em. I wasn't quite sure about the others. I assumed it could be a New Yorker (ie, Fludd, Hall).

With so many slots to fill in next years' recruiting class, creating a mix of frosh and JUCO's will help us balance future classes
It also melds together players with some college experience to pair with the "newbies"
It could help us be more competitive right away rather than having to wait for the "kids" to acclimate to the college game

I agree. Not to mention, we should return our entire frontcourt when our '15 class arrives.

Hopefully, Obekpa will hang around for his senior year and further refine his "offensive" game

I'm glad to see us involved early. This looks like a very impressive JUCO class--perhaps the best I've ever seen after the completion of the freshmen season.
I like Fludd and co. playing down down south as well. They'll be tough to beat this year.

I'll check out that Daytona kid if we are still showing interest in a few months.

Wow that is unusually early for a JUCO to pop. We don't really have that luxury being so close with some elite guards. You don't want to scare off a kid like Briscoe for any JUCO regardless of the talent.

Lavin must recruit both quantity and quality this recruiting cycle since St.John's will have at least 6 available scholarships this year.

Because Briscoe is believed by many to be a spring commit Lavin cannot hold off seeking commitments from other recruits.

Given the fact that over one third of the top 100 seniors high schoolers in this 2015 cycle have already committed then it is likely that Lavin will be required to recruit in the secondary market for junior college and transfers again as he did last season when he struck out for his top high school recruits in the 2014 cycle.

Say if he lands Briscoe/Diallo/Beasley/Sanders. Would that be a failure to you?

St. Jons has done well with the junior college players like Billy Godwin, Walter Truth and Blue Harvey, all of whom still contribute to the Red and White Fund.

I am confident that Mr. Lavin continues this success.

You mean Greg "Boo" Harvey who started in the StJohn's backcourt with another JC transfer Michael Porter.

Boo won the Haggerty Award 25 years ago.

First off why is it “likely” he is going to have to go to the “secondary market.” He was never going to land an entire class of top 100 kids anyway.

Furthermore why do you always have to sound like a lecturing Professor when you speak about a coach who has been in this business a lot longer than you or I have and has coached and recruited at the highest level?

You say things like “must” and “he has to” as if you are some recruiting guru who knows exactly what needs to be done and Coach and his staff are dolts in need of suggestions from a message board?

Can you answer that for me?

This from the person who’s sole knowledge of the Briscoe recruitment was to quote Jerry Meyer’s 247 board and show how SJU did not seem like a viable option. Now that almost everybody agrees SJU is in front for his services this same person is now is prepared to give advice on other recruiting issues for the staff.

Have you given any thought to applying for now vacant personal assistant position to work side by side with Lavin Otis?

Exactly. He makes assertions like he is part of the staff, “He must do this…” or “He has to do this…” or “He can’t stuck like last year…”

Oh really, he does? Says who? Chris Monasch? His analysis assumes all of these factors and then draws the most ridiculous anti-SJU conclusion from it before anything has occurred and then insists he is a good fan who is just voicing his “opinion.” So almost 1/3 of top 100 recruits have committed WHICH ALSO means that more than 2/3 have NOT committed.

The recruiting period is over is not true. Recruiting goes on all the time and kids for 2015 can sign thru next spring and summer. Evaluation may have ended for the summer but recruiting continues and kids signing does not start until November. He seems to confuse those as well evidently in his attempt to show how committed a fan he is.
