SJU Facilities Update

Heard we are also getting a brand new Carrier 5,000 BTU unit for CA. :S

From the pics & video it looks like they did a great job...

Now only if they did get the AC and better seats !!!

Don't need a entirely new arena, just place seating underneath both baskets! Seats thru out would be nice!
Capacity of 8500- 10000 would be adequate I think!

what you described (8500 with bowl seating) would be perfect. But those requirement require a new arena. I say do it! But I'm not a booster nor a local

Renovate for a year play at the Coliseum

You need more than a renovation. There is not a whole lot more to do with that building the way it was built. Yes you could add real seats but you would lose capacity and you can't make it into a bowl shape if that's what you want. Facility would need to be torn down with a new one built. The smaller Coliseum in Nassau might be nice for a few games but you also will have to find a home for the other teams (baseball and softball in the winter and for lockerrooms, weight training, golf etc.) that use the facility.

Play eight or nine games a year at MSG, four or five at the new Nassau Coliseum and the three or four worst draws at CA. We would all love a 10,000 seat arena on campus but the cost is something SJU could not afford.

The Hofstra and Kentucky men’s basketball teams will play in the first scheduled sporting event at the renovated Nassau Coliseum on Dec. 10, 2016, reports Jim Baumbach of Newsday.

The former home to the New York Islanders is undergoing a $260.5 million renovation that downsized the Coliseum to 13,000 seats plus an amphitheater and several restaurants and retail shops. Officials broke ground on the Coliseum this week.

According to Newsday, Kentucky will be paid $350,000 by NEC to play the game, and Hofstra will receive $25,000 from Kentucky as its opponent.

I think the Ken-Hof game has been postponed till 2017. Construction delay will cause a spring 2017 opening of the arena.

Am I way off that the "renovation" a few years back in the range of $20-$30M ?

If so, I can't imagine what it would cost for a total tear and rebuild...even without being over the top, just modern, comfortable, functional etc. I just don't see this getting funded anytime soon and think that MSG is where will continue to play most games.

I remember that it was supposed to be a 30 million renovation and they wound up announcing that they spend 5 million. Ask Father H what happened to the other 25 mill.

To his watches and suits. All kidding aside the new depaul arena is about 175 mil so with construction costs in nyc i would not be surprised if a new arena in queens would be in the hundreds of millions of dollars too.

The DePaul arena is going to seat 10,000. I don't think we need that much. Maybe 7,500. Cost comes way down if you can do one level. For comparison...Hofstra build their arena in 2000 for 15 million and seats 5 grand. I think it would certainly be possible to do 7500 capacity for a lot less than 175 million.

Not happening for a multitude of reasons. Don't waste your breath or your typing skills on waiting for a new
Arena. I detailed many of the legal issues a larger arena would bring a few years ago when this was discussed. Just not happening.

Regardless of your said post redman, and I'm sure it was a good one, I cant believe that CA will live on in its current state forever. That is not the nature of today's athletic beast. Whether that is a rebuild, a new building, or a renovation I have no clue.

Maybe we need a beam to fall from the ceiling like happened at Yankee Stadium to prompt something to be done. Anyone willing to climb up and loosen a few screws? :)
