SJU Building Through Transfers Piece
Political stance aside it's nice to get pub in the Times.
Even with Zagoria writing it. :)

Last I saw over 75 kids decided to transfer after the first semester this year. Some already playing decent roles.

Gotta love Marvin Clark’s quotes and confidence displayed in the Times article.

Given the family difficulties which Marvin encountered growing up and the slippery slope which he navigated during his early life to eventually arrive at St. John’s should forever cause him to be respected by the St.John’s fan base.

In so many ways Marvin is St. John’s.

I really like the transfer route. Very few 4 or 5 star recruits intend to stay 4 years, so you get a more experienced player who is a year or 2 bigger and stronger as well.

I've been calling for it for a decade. I like the kids from from big schools that only play 10 mpg the best.

I think the staff needs to be careful with JUCOs though. It's easy to overvalue that route after a huge success like Figueroa and a solid add in Ahmed, but there are some huge risks there and kids typically need year to adjust.

Other than the first year when the staff had to accept any able body to fill the roster they have recruited 3 jucos in 4 Years , 2 of which were JCAAs in Bashir and LF and Mack appears headed to have the same classification. I loudly applaud the way they have used the juco route.

Just read the article and want to provide some c’arification For those who were not lucky enough to follow the team in 1984-85. The article states that team was based upon local talent and not transfers well the author is not exactly correct. The starting pg Mike Moses transferred home after playing 2 seasons at the University of Florida. The starting power forward Walter Berrywas a junior college transfer. Ron Rowan who was the back up to Mullins was a transfer from Notre Dame. Shelton Jones brother was a jc transfer from Suffolk CC. That is offthe top of my head so I can say with certainty that transfers and jc players were a key part of the final four team.

Curtis Aiken was a Pitt Panther. Darrell Aiken played for the Redmen from 88-90.
When your getting a first team JUCO AA, the risks are minimized,
I think your referring to Cam Mack. I've seen one or two other posts noting him as JUCO AA, but dont see that published in his announcement or elsewhere.

Is this true or just thinking hell be named as one based on his current play ?

He's only halfway through his first season so he hasn't been awarded anything yet.
