SJU All-Time Four Year Transfers

Limited to those I actually saw play:

Reggie Carter - Hawaii
Matt Burst - UNC
Ron Rowan - ND
Justin Simon - Arizona
Bernard Rencher - ND
Never understood the fascination some had -- and continue to have -- with Matt Brust. Think a good deal of it had to do with the excitement over his coming from UNC -- where he played a total of 16 minutes and averaged 0.3 ppg as frosh.

The first thing I think of when I hear his name is when Fun called him a floor-slapping dope.

Recent times - Owens developed into a good one and unfortunately we missed out on the best from him. Herron was good and would have been even better if not for unfortunate and I’ll-times injuries IMO. Simon - definitely. If he stuck around one year in Mike A’s system I think he could have had a Dom pointer senior year type season.

Kid who worked hard, improved every year and did something many keep clamoring for here, turned himself in to a respected 3 point shooter (37%) after being atrocious the two previous seasons. And yes I do know the line was closer than now but it is still 37%.

Again this is on four year transfers and I limited my choices to people I actually saw play. I could have substituted Herron. Others to choose from Moses, Allen, Middleton, Clarke, Owens, Hemple, Kelly, Feiganbaum, Washington or
Redding.

Allen is a good one. Part of the twin towers with Wennington in 84.
Redding was an unfortunate headcase and a bust for all the hoopla surrounding him.
Interesting side note. I looked up stats on Curtis Redding and came across a game log for an NCAA tourney game (remember those?) that he played in. 1980. St. John’s was a 3 seed, Purdue a 6 seed. The game was played on the Purdue home court! Wayne McKoy was demolished by Joe Barry Carroll. Outscored 36-12. Purdue won 87-72.

Brust was a Long Island native who came home; A UNC transfer, so had talent; and we made post season tournaments in his time here. Easy to be nostalgic.

Brust was a maniac his last year. Gave it all and got everyone going. Wasn't a fan who didn't love his energy.
Fun hated him
I liked Brust but in fairness if I hated Collins, Paulus, Wojo and all those other dopey Duke floor slappers Fun had a point

I agree with the floor slapping but there wasn't a kid who played at the gym who didn't do that floor slapping thing.

If those guys are on the team you root for, you love them, when they are not, you think of them as asses.
