Sixth Place

Butler is 1-7 in the league. Let's not get too excited.

The magic number for the NCAAs is to finish in the top 3 in the league or win the Big East Tournament. As I've said all year, this is a 3 bid league, tops. If you win 21 games and are in 4th or 5th in the league, you will be in the NIT.

We aren't finishing in the top 3 or winning 21 games, so it's moot anyway. Maybe we get on a run and win the league tournament, otherwise, hope for the NIT.

Butler is 1-7 because they lost to SJU yesterday. It was Butler's worst home loss in 20 years, to my knowledge. I think we'd all be happy with 3-5 in conference, but this is no small task, and if we could beat Creighton would be a real reason to think the rest of the season is looking up. As it stands, the away loss to DePaul and the home loss to Providence will bite them if the team makes a turnaround.

Loss to DePaul was bad but Providence as they have shown is a very good team If Dunn and Austin were their they would be scary
good

Barring a collapse, Providence is an NCAA tournament team.
It's up to Gtown and St. John's to give the Big East a fifth berth. Out of the two schools, I like our chances with an easier schedule remaining and playing holding a home game against Gtown sans the big boy.

Providence has had the benefit of playing all their games at home with the exception of us and Nova. I want to see if they can win on the road before I call them a tourney team

Listen, I'm really happy the Johnnies came away with a win yesterday. Outside of the game against Fordham, it was easily the best they've played all season. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Yes, they are on a 3 game winning streak... against Dartmouth and the 2 worst teams in the Big East. Going to Creighton and beating them on their home court is a whole different story.

Big East gets 4 possibly 5 teams in NCAA.

What's your point, that they were "only" 1-6 before we played them?

It's nice to have a blowout win on the road against a limited team. I just don't see how you project from that to some sort of miraculous turnaround. Maybe it will happen, but the next good team we beat will be the first good team we beat.

I don't expect anyone to read all of my posts, and I am not expecting, or predicting a radical turnaround. I think the team overall played better than an 0-5 team, and Butler with all of their overtime losses, is a tough out for anyone. At home, I'd agree with you, but on the road, this puts us in position to sweep the season series. With only home losses to Providence and Villanova that's an important aspect of inching towards .500, if they are going to have a chance at that. At this point .500 would be a radical turnaround.

.500 would perpetuate the status quo

I agree we have the best chance to be the fifth team but think it is a long shot to win enough games to convince the committee. Beating Creighton once and Villanova is a must and we still have a small margin of error. I still think it comes down to winning the Big East Tournament which is very possible if we can keep improving.

You are acting like the big east has t be a 5 team league. I Think this is a 4 team league unless someone wins the tourny.

.500 (9-9) after 0-5 is a major climb. The current status quo would result in a conference record of 5 or 6 wins. You don't have to be happy with it, but 9-9 is a heck of a lot better than 6-12. This was never a 12-6 team, but if two conference wins against the weaker half of the conference get them on a roll, that would be great.

Didnt Butler go into overtime on about 5 games in the BE. That means they were one point away from winning those games in regulation which wouldve given them a better record in conference than Creighton. I would not underestimate or degrade the Butler win
