Shot Fired During Robbery On SJU Campus

A cop can't stop someone solely based on fact that they are "known drug dealer" need to articulate that stop a little better, on the other hand I laugh at this falicy that the city did away with SQF, it's the law and the officers right to perform a SQF

A little unsettling. Hollis is actually the residence hall I'm staying in next year

Security in Hollis is top notch compared to literally every other school's dorm I've ever been to. You have to give your card to a security person and get swiped in every time you come in, non student guests have to leave their photo ID at the desk. Suprised something like this happened inside the dorm, but trust me it's much harder to sneak into an SJU dorm than any other area school's dorms. I wouldn't be worried.

Which is why there is more to the story. Somebody let them in and it's possible the victim wasn't a random choice but set-up for a reason. Not blaming the victim but maybe someone told them he might have some cash on him.

There is no way to spin this other than there was a serious breach of security. Whoever was on duty is out of a job.

There's a NY Post article stating it was a drug related robbery by 3 kids so them getting into the building isn't a breach of security. Anybody is allowed into the dorms as long as they have ID and a student to sign them in.

Correct on their being no breach in security.

However, evidently in an effort to bolster security, 12 year olds are not allowed in to assist in moving out a sibling even if a student signs them in and they are accompanied by another adult

Yes, they have to be 18 years old to be signed in. It's worse than Fort Knox lol

It scared me that our unarmed security guards gave chase to 3 guys who had just fired a gun in a dorm.

Back in the 70s SJU liked to hire retired cops as security guards. The bookstore was held up at gunpoint, and a security guard stationed there, reacted like a cop, and was shot and killed. From that time on, the bookstore stopped accepting cash and began using university script - in the days before seemingly all students had creidt and debit cards.

Was never an issue for us previously.

One of the very strong assets that StJ has is that many of N,Y.'s finest retired officers work at the campus. I met one who was an StJ grad on my last visit to campus ; I assume there are many more. Former police chief Kelly is a degree holder so I expect we get the usual fine service of the the world's finest department at the minimum.
Never the less, we all have to keep our eyes and ears open in the present day. it is great newsthat the only ones "hurt" are the perps
