SETON HALL'S AARON COSBY TO PURSUE TRANSFER OPPORTUNITIES
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. ? Seton Hall's Aaron Cosby (Louisville, Ky.) has decided to leave the men's basketball program and pursue transfer opportunities, it was announced by head coach Kevin Willard on Monday.
"We want to thank Aaron for his two years in a Seton Hall uniform," Willard said. "We wish him luck in his future endeavors."
In 65 career games, Cosby averaged 10.1 points 2.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Last season, Cosby made 27 starts and averaged 12.6 points per game.

This on top of rcently losing their only two recruits (both guards) and the mid-season transfer of guard Freddie Brown.

With this news (which was hardly unexpected) the what-looks-like inevitable transfer of forward Kevin Johns, zero recruits lined up for next year, and a less-than-positive buzz on the 2014 class, the Hall has a mess on his hands and Willard's seat has definitely gotten hotter. Expect an all-out effort to get Jaren Sina.

I just finished chatting with a friend that is a SH grad. Apparently the fan base is up in arms over there. They can't believe that Willard was extended. It is a program that is spiraling out of control. Actually, not good news for us. It is in our best interest to have a strong geographic rival in the new league.

Extending Willard was idiotic. He has been as bad of a recruiter as they come at this level. The guy can coach, I know that. I think he's actually a pretty good coach. His recruiting is beyond bad and I'm amazed they didn't look at other options considering our conference changes.

I was chatting with one of my buddies today who is a long time SH season ticket holder. he said they should hire Fred Hill, who is now out of a job at Northwestern, to recruit NJ.

Fred Hill would be a nightmare. They can't go back to a Bobby G type. I agree I'd like to have a strong local team in the new Big East. So I'd love to see SHU always be just a tad weaker than us, but with AC gone, Kevin Johnson with one foot out the door, Freddie Wilson gone in mid-season and a transfer coming in (Sterling Gibbs so at least its a good one), they are going to be in big trouble.

Maybe they get another shot at Sina or know of a Juco or two.

Didn't realize he was extended. Do you know how long?

I thought the extension was similar to Norm's where it made him easier to be bought out?

I think he meant Fred Hill as an assistant. Someone like him or Slice might help lil Williard quite a bit. I think they thought Holloway would fill that role but really who remembers who he is? He's got relatively little experience to be in the Associate Head Coach's role, SHU hall of famer or not.

My friend most definitely thought Fred Hill be considered as an assistant. No way on God's green earth does anyone want him as a head coach.

At this point, I'm not really sure what direction they go. The Hall trying to just hire a recruiter at this point becomes a bit transparent. I think it puts Willard in a bad spot. He needed to hire a top notch recruiter last year, not now. He's barely treading water and losing talent at a bigger clip than he is bringing it in... IMO the Hall is stuck with him and their talent level isn't going to get better with him there. They need wholesale change of regime. It's sad because I think Willard has some really good coaching chops. The combination of a dumb and cheap administration at Seton Hall hamstrung Willard by trying to save s few dollars. Now I'm not sure they can recover unless they at least double their coaching budget and make a really good hire. Easier said than done. Fred Hill isn't the answer.

Pretty accurate. He's an excellent coach. But he has no players at all. Best case scenario for us would have been SHU fires him and we hire him as top assistant.

Fred Hill was probably the only BE coach ever who was worst than Norm.

like MCN said I think Willard is actually a good coach. That being said Hill or Slice would be a great move as an assistant to recruit. Heck I think they should pay Slice more than WIllard in that case

As much as I'd hate to see him go Seton Hall, Slice would be a great choice. But the Hall would have to open its checkbook big time to get him, and that's highly unlikely.

If Barry takes on a few more under-the-table side jobs from the West Coast he can make up the difference in salary that Seton Hall won't spring for. :p

Per Zags, he was extended through the 2019-2020 season...

good news! the new conference can't afford to have permanent bottom feeders that double as low to mid majors.

no one questions hill's ability to recruit. at least seton hall is spending some of the fox money wisely.
