Seton hall forfeits against ST. John’s

Please stay on topic - the topic is the cancellation/forfeit of the SHU game and it's impact on the basketball fortunes of the respective programs, not your information, knowledge or opinions concerning COVID or vaccination.

You will find the off-topic posts on the "no more fans" thread that was previously moved to the Players Lounge.

Eventually we will have to stop moving posts and threads and start deleting off-topic posts.

Please try to keep the threads on topic and free of political commentary and innuendo.  You all know where the line is, please give the moderators the respect of not being cute with the rules.

Thank you.

Does Seton Hall have proof of only 6 players being available? Seems like an awfully convenient number.

Also, the Big East needs to allow us to reschedule. St. John's does not benefit at all from this "forfeit", besides potential BET seeding.
It's a really convenient number for them.  And is that list including their walk-ons?  Because they have 15 people listed on their roster.  They should have to provide proof of 9 players currently showing positive tests. This is the same BS that happened last year.  UConn refused to reschedule against us last year and that one game could have been the difference in us making the tournament.

And if we're going to go back to doing that last year BS where you just cancel and reschedule as you please based on just the school saying they have positive tests, they just need to cancel the season or agree to a bubble.  Because you can easily take advantage of it.  My star player gets hurt and is out for a week... oops we had a positive test can't play anybody this week.  A team is on a winning streak and looking good coming into the game, oops can't play them we had a positive test can't play anybody this week either.

From what I have read it's 7 scholarship players must be available.

As I have said-screw SH. They knew all season they could not play with non vaccinated players in a NYC arena.  They played 10 teams with a number of non vaccinated players and could have infected the players and coaches of those teams.   Meanwhile ALL Johnnies are vaccinated.  Our coaches and players did the right thing and should not be punished.  This is not so much as a player or coach coming down with Covid--this is about players not taking precautions and realizing that they would not be able to play in NYC.  Willard and his coaches have known of the NYC ban on non vaccianted players since SH started the semmester.  All they had to do was follow the Kyrie Irving saga of suspension from the beginning of October.  If anything, Willard and SH should have MSG so that another opponent could have been scheduled for Iona.
Not true. While Kyrie couldn't play visiting teams unvaccinated players were eligible to play. Don't ask me why ask DeBlasio it's his rule.

I hope they reschedule with a comparable quality team.
I think it's been mentioned earlier in this thread but a replacement game is impossible. If this game counts as a forfeit then it will count towards the maximum of 31 games played before the conference tournament. Unless the NCAA changes the rule or these forfeits don't count towards the 31 games played number then it's either reschedule the SHU game or not play a game at all.

Braziller is reporting that the NCAA considers it a no-contest, and that it is not entered in the official record books as a win for us, or a loss for them.  The Big East is calling it that, for Big East Tournament seeding purposes.

So yes, we can get a non-conference game.  We have six days off from January 23-28, so that's the most likely spot to fill in.

Even if the NCAA lets us play another game, we have to find a team that has room on its schedule and wants to play us. If it's not a good team it doesn't help our resume. We probably could play a team like Iona which wouldn't be terrible but it really would be better to travel to a higher rated school that has an opening and schedule flexibility to play us because they missed a COVID game as well. This may not be that easy.

I am not in favor of rescheduling this game, What I would like to see is St Johns beating Seton Hall on January 22nd at the Garden. This would make us 2-0 against the the Hall and give us the advantage in the event of tie breakers.

Ant se how that would help us. If we win they said it’s only Iona,if we lose they say they got beat by Iona

I don't think anyone would say that about a Pitino-coached Iona this season. It would be more applicable if someone were clamoring to play Stony Brook.

So are people still pissed about this?  With or without Julian, we wer le not beating them on the road,

This is what has to start happening in all major pro and college sports. If someone is fully vaxxed and is not showing any symptoms they should not be tested. If we are going to test everyone regardless of vax status and treat them all the same two things are going to happen:

1) people who maybe persuaded to get vaxxed won't because they will essentially say what difference does it make and

2) this cycle of sitting players who test positive will NEVER end and forfeits will continue even with high vax rates and no symptoms which is crazy.

Well if you are a fan of SJU and CBB and you are also glad that a game was forfeited because you think the competition was too tough then I am not sure why you are a fan.
