Interesting. I thought he'd done a great job at that program, and had even heard his name for bigger jobs. I wouldn't be surprised is there was something more to his firing that what we are hearing now.

wow that is very surprising

No surprise at all.

he's been there nine years. One NCAA tourney — and that was five years ago.

I know it's the ACC but you gotta get in more than that during a decade, especially when every other member of the conference has been there at least once since Tech last went.

Why fire Greenberg on April 23rd more than a month after the season ended? Timing is very odd(reminds of Fran getting fired in the middle of May 1998) were his assistants tipped off by the admin he was gone?

Who are the big names they will bring in to replace him?

Norm Roberts.

If Greenberg's firing opens up Montrezl Harrell's recruitment, then I'd love for our staff to go after him. He's 6'7", but he's a strong kid who plays bigger than his height. He has a terrific motor; long arms; and blocks shots. He also tries to dunk it at each and every opportunity.

He's an entertaining listen, so he'll get studio work offers by tomorrow, but the timing was odd. it's like they were trying to screw him (and themselves), or there was a lengthy internal struggle about what to do with him.

Ironically him and GTs Hewitt turned down SJU and subsequently got fired. Lucky for us they turned us down.

I was a supporter of his during our last search. I don't think he's a bad coach at all, but for whatever reason he couldn't get Va. Tech over the hump.

While conceding that a better year this year might have saved his job and I don't think Seth is the greatest coach alive I respectfully disagree with the fact that this is not a surprise for several key reasons:

1) He missed the NCAA's for 3 straight seasons yet was given an extension and told he was very needed in 2010, why?

2) Despite being marred in a disappointing season his AD said that there was NO thought given to not having Greenberg come back. There was NOBODY who did not think that the AD was telling the truth. No one thought Greenberg was in trouble. No one.

3) Greenberg was allowed to do ESPN Tourney coverage as an analyst in March. Much like Lavin and Wright did for CBS. If you are about to can a guy you don't let him go on national TV and get face time meanwhile you are plotting to dismiss him.

4) Biggest reason is, you fire him a full month after the season? Almost impossible to get a decent replacement now.

No in this case I take the AD at his word. He said the huge staff turnover led him to say that perhaps maybe they should clean house and completely start over.

Greenberg never turned down STJ

And Hewitt had 7 million reasons to stay at GT and wait to be fired. Glad it all turned out the way it did though.

Now that is funny.
