Season Win Total Predictions

The thinking coming into the season was we'd get around 15 wins this year and next year be an NCAA team.

Now we run the real risk of finishing with the same or possibly LESS wins than last year. The ceiling looks to be about 12 at this point.

Incredibly disappointing. How disheartening is it that we're playing to be less awful than last year?

But hey, only Big East, Big Ten, and ACC teams moving forward. We won't have an upset like this, where we are favored by 15 points, again.

I'm going with 13. It's not based on any assessment, but anything below that number makes this a dreadful season where I'd hardly look forward to the BE conference. I can live w 13-17 in the regular season, not anything below that.

the scary thing is other than next weekend and maybe depaul what games will we be favored in ?

Have enough talent to win 6 big east games and maybe steal one in tournament. Overcome our lack of coaching.
12 Wins.

Was hoping for an NIT type season. Now I hope we can finish ahead of DePaul. I think an 8 th place BE finish is our ceiling. Tough to be a SJU fan.

Like operating a jackhammer on the LIE in August.

I can see hopefully 5 B.E. win and HOPEFULLY beat PSU.
That put them at 11 wins. I thought they'd be much better then that.

Oh well, that's still an improvement over last year right?

Was thinking 13 to 15 coming into season. Was thinking maybe 10 after the Del State debacle. Was thinking 6 BE wins and 13 to 14 after Fordham. Still thinking six BE and 13 after today. This was not Del state today.

It's an inexperienced team with ups and downs. This group will have ups when strong teams play crappy or this group plays their A game.

I am hoping we see this the team play more consistently down the stretch and take three of the final four regular season BE games.

Honestly, the fact of the matter is this, with Lovett on the floor, we can beat the majority of the teams we play. All depends on our outside shooting and rebounding... However with that said, we can lose to the majority of the teams we play, also depending on our outside shot and rebounding. We aren't winning games in the paint. We aren't winning games with our smothering defense.. Our only hope is that most nights the team is on with their shooting.. That's just the reality of our team right now.. Won't always be like this thankfully.. It also seems that we are playing down to our opponents.. Aside from Fordham, however that was kind of a pay back game.. If we played just as hard today as we did against Michigan State, Minnesota etc., we win this game easily.. 13 or 14 wins regular season.. 1 in BET... 15 total wins.

Who cares at this point. As long as we see improvement, especially defensively, I don't.

It means something if we finish with 7 wins or 13 wins, and this was our easiest game left.

Norm Roberts had 3 losing seasons in his first four years. He turned into a bad gamble as he turned into not only a bad tactician but a mediocre recruiter.
Chris Mullin will easily match Roberts on the tactician deficit but at least we are involved with many quality recruits. That said, being perceived as a losing program never attracts the top recruits nor allows a coach to close on promises of better times ahead.
It makes a very big difference if we win 9 games vs. 14. Perception becomes reality if you stay stagnated as a basketball program. The recruits will just go elsewhere.
Even though there may be a big overlap between our perceptions and reality, there is indeed a gap between them and that gap will only get closed with success. Mullin and St. John's cannot afford three losing seasons again like under Norm Roberts who played in a much superior 16 team Big East. Even then we were not last like now.
With the unexpected losses to Delaware and L.I.U. shit just got serious. Fans want to see hussle every game and not hear excuses from coaches or players because in the end the buck stops at the coach's door.

Hoping for 10. Besides Penn State and DePaul at home, will be the underdog in every other game. I'm guessing they will pull out a few upsets where Ponds and/or Lovett take over, and Ellison and Amir miss the bus to the arena.

B
15 no doubt about it

Will a 20 point loss to Butler at home reduce that? :)

Ups & downs of a team without veteran leadership.

Yes, it will. Now...if they beat Butler by 20 points, we may actually see 15.

They probably have at least five more games like this one. I'm sticking with five to six BE wins. They blew too many of these non league games to get into the 13-15 range for the season.
