Season Predictions

My guess is we'd be somewhere between 22-30 in final preseason poll with MH cleared. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out.
 
I don’t care where we are ranked in the preseason. It’s the post season rankings that mean something.
 
Better off not being ranked. It's pressure the players don't need. I would rather we sneak up on other teams, and work our way into the top 25.

Neither do I. Everything (the poll rankings) will take care of itself, as long as we take care of business during the season.

If being ranked is too much pressure for them then we will suck big time this season.

If we were rooting for a football team the rankings are important, but doesn't matter here. And I'm happy about that, because football poll shenanigans are too F'ing much sometimes, especially late in the season when the four teams they really want in aren't quite where they should be.
 
Being ranked isn't everything of course. I'm sure we would all be thrilled with just making the tourney this year just to get that excitement back again. But remember, the teams who truly matter nationally are almost certainly ranked if you look from a casual fan POV. It means your highlights are on ESPN in front of millions nationally instead of only YouTube with 100 views of only SJ fans watching. Hard to argue that part IMO. It also really gets the attention of major recruits and gives our coaches another bargaining chip. Going to sound like a nerd here but it really was a rush to see us in the top 25 in 2015. Just to see us right there with Notre Dame, UNC, etc. was awesome. Again, I think it's important to recruiting and national branding but I will gladly accept an unranked SJ squad in the tourney. I don't expect to be ranked by season's end by the way, the conference is too tough. It would have to be before conference play if we have a chance.
 
being ranked gets you additional exposure on tv and its good for recruiting too. plus the more casual fans are more likely to attend games.

If MH clears the hardship waiver, this team will be ranked — sooner than people are thinking. Even though there will be bumps along the way (I actually think we will likely go 10-2 NC), I also think that the team will do better than anticipated in conference.

MH, Ponds and Simon will be a unique and very exciting three-headed monster; MC is a rock-solid+ role player and very important leader; Keita is going to be a big help defensively (and, for this team, much more valuable than TO would have been); Fig will put up some very solid numbers (without day-1 pressure); MD is a spark plug with scoring abilities; Trimble will be improved, especially with the weight loss; and I think Williams will be a somewhat unexpected pleasant surprise. Anything out of JR or ME in their first year will just be gravy.

I really seeing this being SJU’s strongest and most exciting team since Barkley, Postell and Thornton. Notwithstanding my being skeptical about the match-up against Coach K [attachment=419]5DF32436-247D-462F-9FC8-F1495BE2511D.jpeg[/attachment], aleady have our tkts for this year’s game in Durham!
 
On a quiet day for college basketball I’ve been texting away with my other Johnny fans and figured I’d post here on the site. Rah rah for those who are optimistic or give me a break for those pessimistic. I’ve been on record saying we probably win the big east and possible elite 8 run from before the season started so I’m pretty much just reiterating that.

Here’s my exchange with my texting buddies.

We have possible a top 5 player in the COUNTRY. Heron and figgy who possible could be first team big east. Probably one will be second team. Simon. Clark. Dixon. Get Keita back. Get what u get from Trimble and that equals great offense and active defense. Gang rebound. Keep turnovers low. Keep coming up with steals and that spells a great ncaa run. And probably first in the big east.

Sure bob I’ll take your bet.
 
I’ll be shocked if we win the big east. That’s something I feel like I’ll never see accomplished. Seems so far fetched

With the makeup of the big east teams this year I think it’s a pretty good reality actually.

Interestingly enough, I went back through alot of the posts and most guessed 12-1 OOC (likely loss being Duke). Since we made it past our toughest matchups, that is looking likely to come true. Didn't realize so many here are so optimistic.
