Sean Evans makes 5

If you really think avr. player in Europe makes $100k you have to be nuts. Try about 35-45k they do get a lot of perks and no taxes
Learn to read for comprehension. I said

The average starting salary in European leagues is $100K
which fact* I took from here:

"The starting salaries of players in the Euroleague, the elite professional basketball league in Europe, is around $100,000."

Argue with them.

As to Sean-feel bad for him if he's looking for women. Germany is know to have some of the ugliest. One good thing is that he's right next to Poland
Xenophobia noted.

* Fact (n): something that actually exists; reality; truth

Euroleague is the highest level league in Europe made of up 24 teams from around the continent and would have the highest average starting salary of the many leagues throughout Europe. However, I don't believe any of the STJ players going pro are playing at that level, nor are any of the other St Johns guys playing in Europe.

They are all playing in national leagues and even at the national level in countries like Italy, Germany, Turkey and others there are multiple leagues at multiple levels. For example for now Dwight is in League 2 in Italy while Omar Cook is in League 1. Lamont, Ty Grant, Hatten and Bootsy are also playing in the highest leagues in their respective countries. I think Sean will be playing in a secondary league in Germany. Yes he's getting paid and its tax free and he probably also gets room and board. Yes he's doing what he loves. No he's probably not getting rich doing it but I'm sure he's doing fine and glad to be there.

It would appear that Paris signed with a top level team in the highest (of five) leagues in Germany. Good for him.

That's about all I can ascertain with my limited searching skills and knowledge of the European basketball scene. Where's Gonzalo when you need him. In fact where's Gonzalo period. Don't believe he's been around since the site came back up, has he?

With the explosion of foreign "professional" leagues, caling someone a pro who gets paid to play somewhere on this planet is like calling a guy who flips burgers in McDonalds a chef.
Leaving aside the shoddiness of your mixed metaphor, its still nothing like that. The average starting salary in European leagues is $100K and the players enjoy all the perks that are available to professional athletes everywhere, with the added bonus of being exotic young men in an exotic land. And the level of competition is second to the NBA. So to recap, Sean Evans will be making 2K a week fresh out of college, dribbling a basketball off his feet in front of cheering crowds whilst beating the frauleins off with a stick. By this time next year he will have already attained more success in his chosen career than will most readers of this in their lifetimes. Whereas the average burger flipper at McDonalds makes a 8$ / hr doing mindless drudge work in a drab colorless workplace, sans groupies.

Other than that you make your usual salient points.
By perks do you mean having coins and firecrackers thrown at them and racial epitaphs hurled at them?

Can't comment on Sean's salary but I'm fairly sure most graduates would settle for 45K tax free for playing a game. The statement about German women though is one of the dumbest I've read here. Kudos to you.

No one is disputing that the chance to continue playong anywhere and drawing a paycheck is a great opportunity and adventure for young men not ready to put the balls away. I am simply illustrating that many of these leagues are light years away from NBA level competition. In the 40s and 50s many major league baseball teams had as many as 20-25 minor league affiliates. It allowed marginal at best prospects like one Mario Cuomo to have a chance at playing professional baseball. With dozens of professional leagues around the world, its apparent that the level of play in many is lower than Big East caliber play, enabling a sub like Evans to play somewhere for pay. Good for him, but for you to start lauding St. John's production of "professional players" serves little point. Any player who plays significant Big East minutes is capable of playing professionally somewhere.

I don't know whether you could call the amount of minutes Sean played last year significant. He did sit out entire games and got totally berated by many. That's what makes this opportunity such a feel good story. Of course if you don't root for underdogs and still harbor a grudge about the times he dribbled too much his success wouldn't please you. I prefer to wish 'em all well after they give us four years of effort without pay.

As I sit here reading all of your comments, I can't help but smile.

On Sean's behalf, I would like to thank St. John 's and everyone who has offered their blessings and well wishes for Sean's continued success.

For those of you who provided less than positive feed back today, and through out Sean's four year tenure. I offer you a very special "Thank You" because YOU provided the fuel that was necessary to ignite the fire of success.

Congratulations to EACH and EVERY St. John's Team member for your success in putting St. John's back on the radar.

Thank You to Norm Roberts and his staff for having the recruiting skills to bring together (on a basketball court) nine outstanding Boys that were transformed into nine Outstanding Men, each with a college degree.

Sean is currently playing on a Pro A team in Germany. I will simply say that due to his hard work and dedication, Sean's financial portfolio is indeed quite sound. Take from that what you will.

Thank you all once again. The last four years have been amazing.

I think his mom and sis have the same name, but I'll assume this is his mom. Congrats to you and your son. He's likely making more than 90-something percent of all 2011 college grads doing something he loves, and in a beautiful country.

Yes, we do have the same name, and yup, I am Mom.
Thank You so much for your support.

Sean has been a fave of mine for four years. I'm really happy to see him make it to the next level and you (and all Redmen fans) should be very proud. I hope they turn him loose a bit in Germany so he can show his entire game. His demeanor has been terrific throughout and I think he'll be very well liked overseas.

For me the lasting image of your son as a Redman is him taking it to Duke on national TV.
What a moment.

 Thank You!

You are a very classy lady and I am very happy for you, Sean and your entire family. Please rest assured that any perceived negativity directed toward Sean was strictly opinion based on his basketball skills and was nothing personal.

It's all good. All is fair in love and Basketball. Thank you for the well wishes.

Both of you should be very proud. Sean is a classy young man who showed a lot of heart and maturity while at St. John's. His future is bright, be it in basketball or some other career path. ... And, as MainMan pointed out, his performance against Duke is forever etched in the annals of St. John's basketball.
