I'm just glad that Mitch McGary is going to end up somewhere other than the BE.

I really wish we could have gotten in the chase for him but since we couldn't I'm just glad we won't have to see him in conference.

His final six: Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Florida, MD and MICH.

Could not agree more.
Would have loved to get MM but if we cant at least he is out of the conference.
Truth be told I sort of feel the same way about Jevon Thomas, would not be happy to see him cross the river and go play at the Hall.

Apparently there's also a slim chance that since he'll be one year removed from his HS graduating class that he'll jump straight to the show. Right now they're saying he won't be is aware it is an option just in case. Andre Drummond was also mentioned as being one that might do the same in the article I read.

Would love to see both of those players go straight t the league.

In years past, I was always a proponent of the "get the best talent and worry about playing time/positions later" approach to recruiting. Does that still make sense for us at this point? I think the criticism we've heard from jealous fans of competitors is honestly reasonable - we do have a roster filled with wings. Is Amile definitively better than Harkless, Pointer, Garrett, or Sampson? If he is, is he a big enough upgrade? Seems like his skill set is overlapping the competencies of our current roster. I, for one, don't expect any of those 4 to be one and done (including Amir to the Reds) either.

I guess what I'm saying is, despite Jefferson's high rating, are we better served going after a less highly-touted big guy? A true center with a wide-base? Joel James? Or maybe a long distance specialist?

Not having enough minutes for borderline McD AAs is a problem I thought we'd never have...

Steve Lavin will sign the best player he can, and worry about how to utilize them afterwards. In High School, Jason Kapono, Matt Barnes, Billy Knight and Rico Hines were all listed as SFs. In 2001, they all started (together with Dan Gadzuric) for 11 games when Frosh PG Ced Bozeman went down - and went 10-1....and by the way, 4 years later, when UCLA played Flordia for the NCAA title in 2006, the bruins starting SF was...redshirt senior Ced Bozeman....

Steve will sign the best talent. He'll go by position/need only when the talent is equal or near equal.

i hear you, and i agree. but dont you think we are getting to the point that the talent level of our top targets, regardless of position, is even enough that we should consider areas of need?

big difference between our current, or projected future, roster and that ucla lineup you cite is the presence of a 6'11" nba-caliber center (gadzuric). id be totally comfortable starting 4 "small forwards" and a legit big guy. maybe godsgift, pelle, or gathers can be that guy - im just not sure they are big enough to match up against big east front courts.
