On the surface yes KU basketball is great and their football is crap.  But how many public/state universities like Kansas have abandoned football regardless of success.  Especially for a Midwest school where they aren't hurting for kids in HS playing football.  For whatever reason those kids have chosen to go away to ply their trade on the gridiron at other schools.
Kansas may be in the midwest but they are by no means a hot bed for high D1 football prospects and neither is Nebraska which is why such a storied program as fallen on such hard times as they have failed to secure out of state talent.

Not saying its a hot bed at all.  But I'm sure finding a school that doesn't play football in the state is like a needle in a haystack.  They have never really been a good program as the article says.  The best players leave just like they leave FLA and go to schools all over the country.

I guess I'm not there yet with a state school from the midwest 86'ing football and going the UConn cheap imitation route.

No school is giving up football because of losing, it's all about the Benjamins they can get from conference affiliation that they can command. Remains to be seen what happens to the 8 schools left behind by UT and OU.

While the writer makes a good case for Kansas to join the BE, I'd like to see Yukon leave as I do not think a large state university with potentially unlimited funding fits in with the largely urban universities now and historically comprising the BE.  Hence adding Kansas would only lead to more disparity.

Kansas fans just stormed the field after they beat FCS South Dakota. Their first win in 677 days. What a proud day for their program.

For Kansas, any win in football is a big win
It may 677 days or more to get their next one
