sam deluca dies

 old time jet and announcer sam deluca has died of pancreatic cancer. he was 75. his son played baseball for four years at st john's...now in the mets farm system.
he graduated from lafayette high with sandy koufax.
 
Just as aside note, during the off season, DeLuca and Baker were gym teachers at my high school. Lafayette's HS coach moved on to John Adams in Queens, and the school hired those two Jets as Gym teachers during the off season. My hygiene teacher was a fellow by the name of Charlie Sheerin, who also came over from Lafayette. Sheering was the Lafayette baseball coach (Koufax played first base) and had also played briefly with the Phillies in the 30s.

RIP, Mr. Deluca
