Rutgers, Thur., Nov. 19, 7PM, FS1 & WMCA 570 AM

@RHoopsRecruits: #sjubb opened as 7-point favorites over #RHoops
Seems high

Wow. I viewed this as a pick em honestly.

I know preseason rankings are to be taken with a grain of salt, but SJU was ranked 150 spots higher than Rutgers going into the season by ESPN.

I feel its high as well but Rutgers has an inexperienced team as well and they were terrible last year.

They did turn the ball over 20 times vs Howard so they are not world beaters by any stretch but I think this is a tough matchup. They've got a lot of big, athletic guys and good guards and a lot more experience.

Sima needs to stay out of foul trouble while giving us some presence but we need to hit the 3 to beat them which will probably be the case for most of our games this season.

Paul, they're all going to be tough matchups. But Rutgers will be the worst high major team they face this year for sure.

Austour, when I refer to matchups I'm talking about who we got vs who they got. Like pound for pound, style of play; front line/front line /backcourt/backcourt. Likely starting 5 for Rutgers:

D.J. Foreman Forward SO 6-8 240
Bishop Daniels Guard SR 6-3 185
Jonathan Laurent Forward FR 6-6 210
Mike Williams Guard SO 6-2
Greg Lewis Forward/Center RS SR 6-9 240

Leading scorers for Rutgers though in their last game were their newcomers who also got the most minutes:
Deshawn Freeman Forward JR 6-7 220
Corey Sanders Guard FR 6-2 175

Freeman and Sanders were pretty highly recruited kids
Freeman was a JUCO All American and Sanders was a 4 star recruit
Daniels is a transfer from The U - played at RU last year
On their premium site, there was mention of improvement expected from Foreman & Williams
I know that they are also high on Laurent, a freshman from Florida
Tomorrow night should be a good test for us
Looking forward to being there!!

Watching Nova and G'town yesterday I'd say Nova is probably better team overall but G'town will be tougher for us to matchup with especially since Nova dares you to shoot the three.

Kenpom predicts a StJohns victory by a score of 75 to 68 with a 76% chance of winning its game against RUTgers.

Lets hope that Pomeroy's computer is accurate this early in the season.

Play a good bit of zone, as they can't shoot.

I thought we were in a time warp and someone was talking about defending a Laving coached team.

Playing a competitive game vs. either even in a loss would be a big moral victory. Yes, there are moral victories when you are undermanned.

We need to hit the 3 against everybody What we need is to curtail our turn overs and hit the offensive glass The 3s will come

I like the way Pomeroy's computer thinks

Will miss my first game tonight. Have a game to coach but will tape it and will try not to find out the score. Rutger's two biggest threats seem to be Freeman and their four star freshmen. The Sophomore from Loughlin Williams could also be trouble. Will be a good test and hopefully a fun game. I still am holding out hope that we could be 8-1 going into the Syracuse game.
