RPI... which is right?

CBS has us at 42
And yes, both were updated this morning.

ESPN has consistently had us about 7-8 spots higher. Unfortunately, most websites tend to have us around 42.

We're not talking a spot or two here... this is a huge discrepancy and could mean the difference of needing X amount of wins to make the tournament.

Anyone have any insight?

Don't know, but the irony is that CBS has been far friendlier to us in their bracketologies then ESPN has been.

Maybe the ncaa uses its own site? Who knows

Thanks, I'm not sure though because wouldn't ESPN use that RPI if it was official?

It was pointed out somewhere that one site counts our pre-season NIT games as home games, while the other counts them as neutral site (a tournament even though it is at MSG). I'm also not sure if either, or both, include the win over Franklin Pierce in their calculations.

I read somewhere that the main difference is that ESPN is treating the NIT games against Minnesota and Gonzaga as neutral court games and CBS is treating those games as home games for St.John's. Unfortunately, the NCAA site seems to match the CBS site. It would be nice if someone at St.John's could inquire as to why an NCAA run tournament is considered home games for us when these games were not part of the season ticket package.

Do they count the Barclays win over Tulane as a home game as well?

I haven't seen the Tulane game as anything other than neutral.

Thanks, makes sense.

And I agree with the bolded. It's extremely important, can anyone with connections to the school look into this?

This must be the one they use, it was mentioned yesterday STJ was just outside the top 50 rpi.

lol it is the one they use. NCAA is going to use their own site, why would they use another sites rpi if they have their own.

Sadly I think you're right but still odd ESPN wouldn't use that RPI if it's official.

Hopefully we can get those 2 games to count as neutral. This is a massive difference and needs to be looked into.

Anyone with Twitter want to tweet at a reporter like NY Post? If this is a mistake that's corrected it would be equivalent to how big the Xavier win was yesterday. It would literally be the difference of needing an extra win end of the season.

I would think those games should be neutral if they're not part of the season ticket package and listed by SJU as neutral. When are tournaments counted as anything but neutral?

The way fans bitch and moan about our MSG attendance ALL our games there should be considered AWAY games. Our RPI would then be in the 20's.

If more people showed up for Minnesota and Gonzaga they would have been the equivalent of home games. With the empty arena they felt more like neutral site games but those 2 teams travelled far distances so we definitely had an advantage.

I wouldn't call all our MSG games neutral site games but Duke definitely was. As were our Cuse and Nova games last year. Providence had a lot of people at our game with them and I'm sure Georgetown will bring a ton of their fans. There are so many alumni in NYC from all of the major schools that it tends to diminish our home court advantage at MSG. No one ever accounts for this when looking at our resume. There are pros and cons with playing at MSG. We have to take the good with the bad.

True but more pros since it's our biggest recruiting tool. I know what you're saying though, it mostly comes down to our fans needing to do better.

The Pre-Season NIT was an invite tournament that just happened to be at MSG are neutral court games. Scheduled home games at MSG are different regardless of the crowd makeup.
