Rothstein’s BE Power Rankings

Motivational material for Johnnies

https://collegehoopstoday.com/index.php/rothstein-files/big-east-offseason-breakdown/
In year 1, our guys adapted to a brand new system and were thriving by season's end. The newcomers have talent and should fit right in. Picked 8th means we will have a team with a lot of players feeling disrespected. That's a powerful motivational tool.
Two words - Rothstein's wrong!!!

I dont like his starting 5 at all. To me, cole is a lock at the 2, champy at the 3 and duke at the 4. I like posh and moore to round out the starting 5.

Though i could see dunn and toro starting in place of posh/moore.

Imo, cole, champy and duke are locks at 2,3,4.

8th on paper seems about right after losing LJ. I thought most analyst would project them 6th with LJ.

With that said, I'm one that believes they'll out play their projection and don't think the LJ loss hurts as bad as some may think. Cole is the X-Factor IMO, if he is what most of us think he'll be they'll have enough to make the tournament. Also my dark horse for team MVP next year is Champaigne, wouldn't surprise me if he ended up emerging as the MVP on this team. He's the guy I'm most excited to see, as far as progress made in the offseason.

When the season ended abruptly a few months ago, SJU was playing its best basketball and didn't appear to be losing as much talent as the big east top teams. I was thinking a fifth place prediction for this season was in the cards.
Rothstein is only one college basketball predictor but another eight place finish, playing in the Wednesday big east tournament games as usual just seems to be an annual occurance with the experts low prediction almost always turning out to be correct. Very frustrating.

He is the classic data overload type of guy.
Knows every player on every team when he is on Joe and Evan show during NCAA tournament time and his predictions have historically been brutally bad.

More goes into coaching and playing college basketball than a computer has the capability of analyzing.

Does it ever occur to you that when you don't use the quote function, people have no idea what you are responding to?

Read the title of the thread-Rothstein's BE rankings. This time usguard is on solid ground. :)

Yup. One of those rare occasions. :p

Uconn at number 3 is a little suspect. I know they have some nice talent and that guard Bouknight is very good but I don't buy it. I don't think the transition will be that easy.

I don’t either. They haven’t cracked the top 5 in the AAC in years. Not sure what makes them ready to ascend like that. They have some nice talent but a lot of it is new and it’s gonna be a tough haul.

Seton Hall losing 3 big pieces in McKnight, Gill, and of course Powell. That's a loss of 40.7 PPG. And they are picked 5th? The only way that happened is based on how well they played last year. That's 54% of their scoring for the team all gone. Sandro is all they have that is a sure thing and he's coming off injury. Even if he stays healthy all season I doubt he's the type of player to dominate as the only real big threat to score. Opponents can double up. I think SHU ends up being 7-10 especially if Sandro can't handle being the man or if he gets hurt again.

They finished the season on a serious roll, winning 6 out of last 7 (Only loss was an OT loss at Temple). They return all of their main guys and have a terrific class coming in. I think they are poised to be really good next year.

I think on paper the 4 best teams coming into next year are Nova, Creighton, UCONN and Marquette. I think that is clear. Marquette bumped up after DJ Carton gets immediate eligibility. The other 7 a step below if not more.

Good thing you qualified your thought because on the court St. John's is going to be better than both Uconn and Marquette.B)

Uconn beat South Fl, Central Florida, Tulane, and East Carolina and Memphis in that stretch. Only Memphis was over 500 in conference, and barely over. Also Temple beat them and they were only 6-12 in the American.

Like I said, they will struggle with the grind that is the Big East. The depth in the American is nowhere near the Big East. That being said, I respect Hurley and their talent level so I wouldn't be shocked if they end up in the top half. Just wouldn't put them there yet.

I see it as Nova & Creighton at the top, Georgetown, Depaul and Butler at the bottom with other 6 spots up for grabs. I'll be disappointed if we don't wind up in top 6 but I'm an optimistic Johnnie fan so not surprised pundits might have us a little lower.

Butler is always underrated
They are generally picked low preseason and never finish there
I'd be surprised to see them in the bottom three next year
