ROTC

This will factor into where I donate my money.

Funny how the ROTC debate has gone full circle. In 1969 I was with a group of students who took over the on campus ROTC site in an effort to get it kicked out. The rationale was (is) the military has no place on a college campus. I still fell that way, but....

Doesn't sound like St. John's is the one doing the cutting, but who knows.

According to that link, ROTC classes will still be given but we’re now something else. Not a “host”.

“These institutions will retain cadre members on their campus and Cadets will continue receiving training and education there, but the program will merge administrative and logistical support with a retained host unit.”

According to that link, ROTC classes will still be given but we’re now an “extension” unit. Not a “host”. No idea what that means in practicality.

Perhaps the school has some plans or needs for the space occupied by ROTC.

I've heard we received a record number of applications and there is some interest in expanding residential students as opposed to commuters. That could up our academic profile by delecting from a larger geographical pool of the best students.

My only gripe against ROTC and it's not really with them is that back in the 70s an ROTC fraternity not affiliated with SJU fraternities in any way shape or form was involving in an accidental stabbing to death of a pledge in a hazing incident. The school instead of taking action against ROTC clamped down on fraternity pledging on campus.

I did get a letter from West Point when I was a senior in HS but in 1972, joining the Army wasn't exactly a preferred choice. I do have a draft card buried somewhere though.

And keeping on topic: Ed Kull has nada influence here.
