I agree with RedStormRising 2, it isn't as bad as it looks, and not as bad as people are making it out to be. 3+ game suspension. Ron won player award for civility only last year. He's turn himself around and really has gotten a bum rap.I watched the Place debacle live and I think he got a lot more than he deserved. I like Ron; he's done a lot of good things..
I tend to agree with Cappy.
People overlook it because basketball isn't hockey where a fight breaks out every game. But there is plenty of physicality in basketball. No, it's not legal. But there is constant pushing and shoving in NBA games, and a few times every season punches are thrown.
It's wrong what Ron did. But it's not that out of the ordinary. And it's not "criminal". Give him a 15 game suspension, and everybody move on.

+1. People are calling him names because who he is. People act like he is a bad guy which is far from the case. Hope Harden is ok though

I tend to agree with those that say Ron's not a bad guy. He's just an idiot. I don't think he has bad intentions. I simply think he's not cut out for interacting with humans.
i know you guys are gonna think im crazy, but i think its getting blown out a little. Yes, you can not do that, and yes, its a def suspension, but i totally believe him it was heat of the moment incident. Look, we all know Ron Artest here on this site better than most, what makes him such a feared and sometimes valuable player is his fire. He plays tenacious defense, and with that rare quality that he doesnt back down to anyone. There have been plenty of players over the years that played like Ron, remember the Detroit Pistons ? Hey, all im saying is that it deserves a stiff penalty, but thats part of Rons game, his fire. Also in all fairness, he's been targeted and labeled as a goon. I see it it differently thats all.
The sad thing is Artest wasn't the biggest head case in that recruiting class. James Felton, who Fran signed after Elton Brand chose Duke, clearly was worse.

If you watch in slow motion, and see how he loaded up before delivering the elbow to the side of the head, had the blow been placed maybe 8 inches away to the temple it could have been a devastating blow from a 6'7 260 lb man. Years ago it a softball league I played in, a runner collided with the first basemen who knocked down a grounder and was scrambling to the bag on all 4's to beat the runner. The runner's knee hit him in the temple, and the guy died. Artest isn't a goon, he's a really sick guy, serious mental health issues. Totally unprovoked, and although a flash decision, totally deliberate act. You have to wonder what the next unprovoked act could be.

Totally agree. Get him out of the league, obviously suspensions aren't teaching him anything. "Fire" and "tenacious defense" are good things in basketball. You can have both of them without being a psycho deliberately trying to seriously injure someone else. The basketball wasn't even in play at the time. As you said, A 6'7'' man throwing an elbow like that can kill somebody, or at least end a guys career. I don't see how some of you think it's getting blown out of proportion.
He is a goon. Did you see how he reacted when Ibaka confronted him? He's a goon if I ever saw one. Running into the stands to beat up a fan? He's labeled as a goon because he is one. It's surprising to me that Artest can blatantly try to seriously injure someone, and some people still say he's "a good guy."

"He (Ron) did it to raise money for the Cancer Research Foundation, moved by the battle of his daughter Diamond, who had a kidney tumor when she was 4. He gives heavily to charity, appeared before Congress to talk about mental health awareness, raffled off his NBA title ring, and raised $60,000 for the cause.
He won the NBA's citizenship award last year. Is he a bad guy? A great guy? That's not the point. He's a real guy, a real person with real, and major, problems. And he's not equipped to deal with them fully, but he's trying.
He's trying.
The loose screw guy is who he honestly is. And the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award holder is who he is, too."

Anyone who has dealt with a serious mental illness in their family might look at Ron entirely differently.
