Robbins -- Harkless has NBA in sights

Why did he write this story?

Let the kid play this season without bringing this stuff now, gee whiz.

I guess I am naive.

robbins regularly reads this board, and gets some of his ideas from here. Not that Redmen.com'ers are the only ones speculating.

Mo won't declare because he's listening to Robbins. He'll have to look at the draft when the season is over. This year is a particularly deep draft. Mo is also not physically ready to play from day 1 in the NBA and is still a bit raw in a lot of spots. If he's a lotto pick he should consider going. I think he'd be a lot better served after one more year for a lot of reasons. Nate Blue says unequivocally that Mo is coming back, and he's as close to Mo as you can get. I'd take that as the most likely scenario. Regardless, I'm happy for the kid and to get another guy into the NBA. He can enter the league with a LOT bigger impact and bigger initial contract after his soph year with some work on his body and rounding out his skills.

Agree but any team that takes a good look will see the potential .... As in future N B A All Star and will grab him on potential. A team with a good training facility can get him stronger and more physically ready over time. If I am an NBA owner I would jump at the chance to get this kid. As a St. John's fan, I pray he stays.

Mo is smartest to look for the biggest guaranteed money he can up front. That's in the lotto. Unless he's a lottery pick and guaranteed, he should stay. This season he just might be, but draft is strong overall. Next year I'd say he's assuredly a lottery pick.

Harkless, if he returns, could be a serious contender for College Player of the Year in 2013.. it was a different era but, Walter Berry played 2 years and followed Mullin as Player of the year in 1986..

Harkless could also benefit by leading the Redmen to being a contender for NCAA FINAL 4 IN 2013 AND being the top player on a championship contending team increases the NBA money he will get.

But, the NBA is a magnetic lure for these kids and the $$$$ is tough to pass up at any age.

I hope he opts to stay and play for Lavin in 2013.. I think the lure of being part of turning this team into winners next year is pretty strong within him. Plus it sounds like his family and personal values will influence his decision. He is a outstanding kid in that regard as well.

.
Whatever. he decides wish him the best Listen to our. coaches do whats best for yourself and your family You represent St johns well Keep playing hard you will make.a great pro just do not jump to soon be ready. YOU have a ticket on the trian to the next level Whenever the times comes for you take it Thank you for stopping at the st johns. station on your way.

Moe seems to be a well grounded kid who is intelligent and able to make sound decisions. With his background and the draft circumstances, he will be here for another year. I pray for two with a national championship!

I will NEVER fault a kid for reaching out and taking the money when it's offered. If the kid is projected to be a first round pick, its essentially picking between a $30,000 a year job and a 7-figure a year job for the next year. I think 95% of us would choose that 7-figure job, and if you stay you just never know what could happen injury wise. I wouldn't blame him for taking the money this year and I would support the kid no matter what the decision.

Of course if I had to choose i would want him to stay. I think the kid can evolve into a top-10 pick next year as long as he gets a bit stronger, gets a bit more comfortable in dealing with contact and can develop a quicker, more consistent release on his shot.

of course, we want him to stay. that being said, his leaving would signal a pipeline to the nba under these coaches and he'd be replaced down the road by better caliber high school and prep players. he wasn't top 13 out of high school... his stay at st johns...even though brief...improved his skill levels enough to be thought of as a top nba prospect.

This is what happens at successful programs...great players leave early...we may not like it when they do but it comes with success

Moe wants to stick in the league and not just get a 3 year contract. Next year he will likely move to his natural 3. He will then have the ability to show off and improve his handle and outside shot and get to the NCAA tourney to boost his draft stock. I am sure he will think about going pro after this season but I don't see him going as an unfinished product.

Just my two cents, he'll want to go pro after a winning season and an NCAA Tourney berth, not after a 13-16 season or however this season ends. I, unfortunately, see him and D'Angelo both departing after next season, but as another poster already pointed out, this is what happens when you recruit and GET players like this.
Have to take the good (or great) with the bad.

Harrison will not be leaving next year. He might flirt with it after his Jr. year like Scotty Reynolds but Harrison will be a 4 yr player. And the thought of that should excite all of us. Harrison is stuck at the next level like Hardy and Reynolds where he is too small for a 2 and not a 1. Harrison is not going anywhere, anytime soon and will likely leave STJ as one of the top scorers if not the top scorer in school history if he keeps a pace like this up.

I agree I see Harrison as a 4 year player, that is if he doesn't go crazy and knock a ref out before then ;)

I certainly think Moe has a lot of things he can still work on, but the main factor in his decision to stay will be because this year's class is so stacked with wings of similar size and skill.

In any other year I wouldn't blame him for coming out, this year I think he can do better for himself by declaring next season. And it sounds like he knows that. Nate Blue tweeted after the game that he'd be back, so I believe that.

Just hope we can create shots for Moe when we play Cuse on Saturday. I actually thought it showed Coach K's stubbornness when he didn't switch to a zone to slow done our come back. Anybody who's watched us all season knows they should force us to shoot from the outside.

Moose, I agree, this seems the most likely scenario.

I think at the end of the year he will have an opportunity to go to the league and be a first round pick. Its ultimatley going to be up to Mo to stay in school or go pro. I would like to think that the kid from Queens didnt just go to St. John's because it was close to home, when he could have gone anywhere in the country. He went because he wanted to be that Queens kid that stayed home and contributed to putting St. John's back on the map. I'm sure he actually wants to play for Lavin which he technically has'nt done yet.... and he wants to have a true college experience and go to the NCAA tournament. Hopefully I'm right and Mo will be at the core of a very serious St. John's squad in the next year or two. Wishful thinking but Mo is a legit talent and has already opened up alot of doors.

I think he'd be a lot better served after one more year for a lot of reasons.

I think everyone would be even better served after two more years. That's what Final Fours are made of.

Hey, I can dream, right?
