Well considering all last year fans were calling him "Looo eeees" but the PA announcer was calling him Lewis, its good that everyone now embraces Lewis.
I guess loo-eess makes sense because it's how the first name Luis is pronounced.
What is important to remember about embracing a kid, is that they come to college basketball with skills that are largely undeveloped but still immensely talented or tall.
The stuff the RJ would do last year, driving into a pile of defenders is likely something he could do in hs and to some extent at a mid major and get away with it. After all, way back when I saw Julius Erving drive on the entire Denver Niggets team again and again in the ABA playoffs, and made them look silly. 5 guys including Bobby Jones and Dan Issel couldn't stop him triple teaming him.
RJ made the best decision of his life coming to play for Rick. Zuby too. The whole roster basically.
For RJ, it's been, work on your 3. It makes him uber dangerous to have to either guard him out there and have him make shots or blow past you. Understand spacing and learn when to take it to the hole, where one on one you have to badically foul him to stop him. The other stuff? Defensive rebounds snatched out of crowds quicker and higher than anyone. Highlight reel blocks. Putbacks with 2nd 3rd and 4th efforts.
It was all there from day 1 ability wise. Just needed moderate improvement, hard work, refinement, attitude.
Great kid. The dude prays during the national anthem. Never seems to lose his cool, whether it's a big spot, or getting hammered from a flagrant.
Embrace him? I love this kid. He's a gem through and through.
