RIP to the God Squad and the Guard Squad

I didn't mean to bad mouth Xavier by any means.

I went to Nazareth a diocesan Xaverian Brothers school, and my grammar school principal Sr. Mary dePores didn't select me to sit for the Regis exam, much to my mother's chagrin. My father worked as a firefighter, my mother stayed home to raise 5 kids, so if SJU didn't offer me a half scholarship (with the Regents scholarship a full), I would have gone to Brooklyn College like all my friends.

I'll stand by my remarks about Scalia however. The man had a fine intellect, but some of his positions were less than "Christ-like", and his dissents might be funny but way too nasty and denigrating to the under-represented in this country. One man's opinion, but I don't Scalia agreed with any of Pope Francis' positions.

You related to the Moran Bros from Brooklyn who went to Xavier in the 70's? Mike was a hell of a ballplayer. 6'2" shooting guard. All city. Think he played college ball at Vermont or New Hampshire. A few years older than me. Pat was in my grade. Good ballplayer also. Middle bro was John I believe. Wouldn't be surprised if he was coaching high school or college somewhere today.

That parking lot is enormous.

I haven't been over there in at least 25 years, so not sure what it looks like anymore, but it was a beautiful piece of property, especially when you take into account the location. I had a blast growing up in Elmont, but whenever I have to drive through there, I always think, "Man, I can't believe I grew up in this dump."

My old block looks so dark and desolate now I think I feel safer in Oakland than I would walking the streets of my old neighborhood.
