RIP Rowdy Roddy Piper

honky tonk man !!

Do I sound nerdy if I say I saw him and Greg "the Hammer" Valentine manning a booth at a comic book convention? Honky Tonk looked less than thrilled. The Hammer looked like an angry prick.

PS, my favorite wrestler to watch ever? Mils Mascaras. Heartbreak Kid a distant 2nd.

You have great taste -- he was mine as well. Although as a New Yorker pre-Internet, it was mostly through magazines, catching him on the WWF circuit when he'd visit, or lucking into him on an LA station on UHF Saturdays. 3 p.m. stands out in my mind.

His brother was nasty, but never got the same recognition.

Not sure how old you are but in the mid 70's there was a late night wrestling show for the International Wrestling Alliance on WOR 9. I think midnight Saturdays. Masacaras was the champion. First time I saw Ox Baker was through that one as well. I remember a few others who I don't know if they wrestled elsewhere, the Love Brothers (not be confused with the awful Brother Love), MIghty Igor (kind of an infantile Ivan Putski) and a manager named Freddy Cannon who I believe has some notoriety elsewhere.

I remember the channel 9 wrestling. It wasn't wwf ? Was there that horse racing pulling the carts right after it ?

They carried the WWWF at the time as well. IWA was filmed in a colorful studio. Very different for the time. Very shortlived as well as far as I can remember.

harness racing I guess. I think the track was the meadowlands

I want to say the racing broadcast after wrestling on WOR was from Yonkers. But 35 years may have taken a toll on my memory.

If racing was on AFTER wrestling, how could you watch the last minute or two WAITING for the wrestling?  :)

Maybe you fell asleep during the wrestling and woke up to the harness racing. :)

The harness racing alternated depending on the season between Yonkers Raceway and the defunct Roosevelt Raceway.
