RIP Bill Walton

Will miss his goofy announcing at the Maui Tournament. Hawaii and Walton was a great match. I never knew when he was kidding or just being a pain in the ass. Always had some good SJU stories about Louie. May he RIP.

Sorry to hear this. May He rest in peace.

Had chance to meet him last April. He was keynote speaker at an industry conference. He was phenomenal.
He was in pain at that point and could barely get up the 4 or 5 steps to the stage. He paced stage for an hour straight. He noted that he had to keep moving constantly to minimize it.

One of my favorite all time sports characters. A true west coast guy who always managed to keep me awake when I was watching west coast games way past my bedtime with his nutty commentary. Rarely had anything negative to say about anyone. We graduated college the same year.
R.I.P. big Bill.

He got a lot of flack for his announcing but it sure was entertaining. There were many times I stayed on the channel just because of him and therefore watched more college basketball. Compare that to all the times I want to turn off games because of announcers these days.

Never saw him play live but read many stories and plenty of highlights. RIP

He was an original my cousin played with all four brothers at Uni HS in San Diego. Went to Bill’s house as kid/teenager growing up a good amount. Love playing pickup on the court on the side. A lot good times smoking in the tiki. Great man.

He's got me in age by a few months. Remembering his UCLA days fondly, he was as, or more, dominant, than Lew A (Kareem) in college, but obviously not in the pros.

His game was as outstanding as his commentary was fun. If the game was bad, or got out of hand, his stories would go on and on and veer off in all sorts of directions. His stories were, like him, legendary. He was always better with a play-by-play man with a good sense of humor.

I wish he was healthy throughout his entire career, he'd be in the conversation of maybe Top-5 or 10 of the All Time Greats. Great defender, rebounder, fundamentally sound, good passer with a great outlet and terrific court vision and a very good shooter. A taller Larry Bird.

I liked that he loved Looie and Mully and seemed to like St. John's as an East Coast school for a definitely West Coast guy.

May he rest in Peace as I did not know he was long time battling cancer.

I think him, Jerry Garcia, John Prine and Jimmy Buffett are all toking Upstairs on a big 'ol doobie.

Spent a large part of his life in chronic torturous pain especially his back. RIP big fella you were one of the greats.

I didn't know he was sick. Very sad. Great player. Fascinating person. RIP.
He’s been fighting it I want to say over year. It went bad over a month ago. 2 stories stick out about Bill for me. One was seeing him play piano at his house which was a shrine to the GD. The other was him coming to my cousins basketball camp to speak then going out for lunch with him my cousin and Bill’s friend Gregg.Who was impressed by all the drills ran. I’m 22 years old at the time wasn’t the biggest music fan. Well Gregg was Gregg Allman.
