9-9 is how I see them finishing, that won't be good enough to get in the tourny.
They gotta win the games that they should win, and steal two others.

I am not saying I am optimistic or that this team will make the tourney, but 9-9 in the Big East this year is getting in to the NCAA. If we finish 9-9, with a good non-conference we are dancing.

20 wins scares the hell out of me, give me 22 wins.
No doubt that we could get those extra 2 in the B.E. tourny. It will be an interesting 1 1/2 months to go.

I think 9-9 with 1 win in the BET can get us in. Our RPI and SOS will be high and the profile of the league is much much higher than last year. What remains to be seen is whether this team can get to 9-9. I don't like the injury to Harrison. Calf injuries are slow to heal and easy to tweak and re-injure. We will not sniff 9-9 if he is a 2-10 or 3-18 shooter.

Don't play him against Duke. Yeah it would be a great win, but he's shooting terribly the last two games anyway.
I's sacrifice the Duke game for a healthy Harrison, we need him for every B.E. game.

I forgot to mention a BET win, which I think 9-9 with a BET win gets us in. If you recall last year Gtown was like 7-11 or 8-10 in the Big East and most people had them in before their BET loss to DePaul bc of their non conference. Now our non-conference is not as good as Gtown's was last year, but the Big East is so much stronger that 9-9 to me without any bad non-conference hiccups should get us in. Hopefully the team turns it around and gets on a roll and ends up with 10 wins and we aren't worrying that much.

The Big East is definitely stronger and garnering more respect. CBS Sports website issued their latest bracketology on Monday (AFTER our loss to DePaul) and has us as an 8 seed. Of course, that would put us in the dreaded 8/9 game and, of course, the #1 seed in that region is Kentucky! One game at a time but right now, we are still in the discussion.

They updted yesterday.

They have us as the 9th seed in the midwest vs Mich St., KU is the #1seed.

Actually, they are right where I thought they'd be overall at the point in the season.

in preseason went went +1 (had them losing at SU), -1 in the B.E (had them beating Butler and DePaul, and losing at Pc).

Yeah I know I said 14-4 in the B.E., but that was incase a crazy mericle happened.
I would have said: "See I told ya not to worry." Oh well that didn't happen.

9-9 puts us at 46 rpi according to rpi forecast That plus a BET win (and assuming a loss after) should get us in.

This schedule has SJU possibly closing the season with a 1-5 run. Not encouraging as we enter the Big East tournament. I dread the idea of playing Seton Hall and losing to them again, with Seton Hall going on to the NCAA and SJU going to some buy-in tournament.

Put Duke aside. Critical to beat Creighton away. They played Butler tight on road & still have loyal fan base. Win that one & hold serve at MSG v Providence and we can have meaningful discussion about making NCAA.

I have a terrible feeling about the Creighton game. You know they are gonna get their first big east win eventually, and I just have a terrible feeling it will be us. Hopefully they shock nova or something

You are right to be concerned. Not only are they due, but their rabid fan base still fills all the seats. If we could not beat DePaul in front of ten fans & janitorial staff, how could you not be concerned? Beating them is possible of course, but we are not good enough to do it with our B game.

Would rather this team play in front 20,000 fans who hate them then 200 who could care less. Never seem to get up for those games. That's why I still think we have a punchers chance vs duke. There is no doubt our kids will be up for the game.

Fate of the season will most likely be decided in the five games following Duke:

@CRE
PROV
@BUT
CRE
DEP

Difficult to see how we get to 9-9, or certainly 10-8, in conference without going 4-1 in those 5 games. After that 4 of the last 7 are on the road, and 3 of those 4 are the 3 toughest road games in conference (Nova, GTown, X). We are going to need to do significant work in these 5 games, 3-2 and we have problems, 2-3 or worse and we can start talking about winning the BET.

I agree 100% with you SJU1512. Winning 4 of the next 5 after Duke is imperative.

I second that. Was looking at the sched this morning before seeing this thread and had my eyes squarely on these next 5 games after Puke. Getting revenge against Butler and DePaul is massive for us. It rights the wrongs of January and also gives us a decent shot at 4-1 in that stretch
