Question:Did you get your money's worth this year?

Absolutely. Living in the Hartford are without a car getting to NY isn't the easiest thing in the world to do. With that said I made it down for 7 games this year including are game in Providence. As a fan i feel like it is partially my responsibility to get my money's worth, When the team gets down that's when we are supposed to get up and push this team. Far too many times this year I've seen other teams go on a run against us and the crowd just never get back into the game. As a player that has to be tough. This team showed resiliency this whole year on many different occasions, without the crowd support that made me proud to call myself a Johnnies fan. The Georgetown game this year was the most fun I think I may have ever had at a St. John's game. We had 20 wins which we all should learn to appreciate a little more. St. John's basketball is my favorite sports team pro or college and honestly I don't even think about the money when I go to the games, as long as I'm in the building!

I spent 40 years in the Hartford area.
Are you from there?

Yes. I got to go to games and so did the rest of the family. We are all St. John's fans including my daughter who went to UCONN. It's a family disease.

It's an interesting question Beast, and one I definitely thought about this year more than years prior. The easy disinction for me is whether we are talking about gross enjoyment or value.

On the gross enjoyment front it's a no-brainer. I love going to the games, hanging with my family and friends in our season ticket crew, and watching this team live. While the ultimate results of this season were an abject dissapointment, this is entertainment and this team was relatively entertaining this year (especially in comparison to prior regimes). We were competitive in general and played our best basketball in particular at the Garden which provided some excitement.

The value side of the equation is a different story, as I'm not sure there is any. I like supporting the school, the option to buy BET/NCAA tickets (which we usually take advantage of), and I suppose I like having the same seats for every game and not having to go through the process of purchasing for each individual game...but the reality is I know I could be doing this a lot cheaper going that route.

Lavin's first year I viewed the tickets as something of an investment, thinking there would be a time in the not distant future where games would be packed, individual games would in fact be more expensive, and the seasons would have good value. In the new conference, even if we were a Top 25 team, I'm not positive that's going to happen in a material way. Which begs the question if I could continue to get the gross enjoyment of going to games live (something I'm not giving up even if and when ticket prices do go up) and save a few bucks in the process for the time being? Seems like that option is out there.

The year and a half I spent living in Hartford completing my MBA was probably the worst years of my life lol. That city is the worst.

Anyway, I don't know how someone could say they didn't get their money's worth unless they were expecting way too much when attending the game, or if the kids simply gave up, which they didn't.

ya unfortunately

You guys are all good guys, and expressed all the reasons I love going to games. For me, even the thought of "game day" is something special when I get up. At MSG, almost like saluting the flag, I never fail to gaze up at the NY knicks retired numbers. I see Carnesecca's 526 there, and think that "Wow, St. John's ranks in the greatest sports building in the world." Ali-Frazier, the Rangers - Messier, Graves, and the rest of the Cup champs - Giacomin, Gilbert, Phil Esposito, Ratelle, etc. All the great Knicks teams. But that's just the building.

Won't go into SJU past there, because we've had our moments, and the question was about this year.

I went to every game expecting to have a shot to win, and the team didn't disappoint in that regard. I'd have liked us to get off stronger than 0-5, which just about sealed our fate, but I definitely think I got my money's worth. Any chance I can spend with my family rooting for the school we all root for is money well spent - even my wife made the most appearances this year that she has in a very long time.

Anyways, thank for your answers, and keep them coming.

Matt, I made that damned trip to Hartford many times a bunch of years ago to work at a client site. From the Throgs Neck Bridge its about 2 hours. It's fans like you that inspire, and while guys here bitch about an hour's commute on public transportation, you're a real trooper! Thanks for sharing that. You're a great fan!

This question is for season ticket holder's only, and since it's personal, there isn't a right or wrong answer.

For the last three years of the previous regime, I had an increasing feeling that I was throwing money away, and I cared more bout winning or losing than St. john's did. finally after the fifth season of NR, I cancelled my tix after more than three decades. I did find myself spending almost an equal amount on single game tix, and renewed immediately when Lavin was hired.

I'm as disappointed as everyone on here, but do feel we played a very competitive schedule. So my question is, for season ticket holders only, is, do you feel you got your money's worth for tickets this year?

Let's try not to turn this thread ugly, but I am curious to hear all responses.
Amazing parallels Beast...based on previous back and forth, you and I were at the school at about the same time, both went to Kentucky but left ticked off before the Nova-GT game...I too, gave up my tickets after 34 years at the end of the NR era (regretted it as I had fantastic seats) after sending Monasch an eMail asking why he would extend Norm before the end of the season given no progress and recruits...also re-enlisted when Lavin came on board...

Tickets aren't cheap and I question whether the athletic department recognizes the lack of fan support as a problem...but, for me, I am all-in as long as I can...Met/Giants/Rangers/Knicks fan since a kid...but the Redmen are my team!

Were you good friends with a tall guy with glasses named Ken?

Yes...my man Kenny D.
