I don’t pretend to know Fr. Shanley but I have had 2 conversations with him and I came away with the strong impression that he has a shrewd focused business mind unlike his 2 predecessors.Born on July 7, 1958. Makes him a young 64 years.
Choosing to move on from CMA after this season would mean the school would have to pay him whatever the agreed upon buyout is in his contract, not the total amount of what’s left. I’m sure that’s still very expensive too but wouldn’t be $7.5MI don’t pretend to know Fr. Having said that I am less confident that there will be a coaching change at the end of the season because CMA’s contract is said to have 3 years remaining at what has been estimated at at least $2.5M per year. It would be a big bite for St. John’s to eat $7.5M+.
Three years is not the issue as much as what the guarantee is as well as terms of any buyout. Cragg hopefully built some flexibility into the contract, but around here you never know.I don’t pretend to know Fr. 2 things:You’re correct that the terms of the contract will survive termination; unless anyone has seen the contract then I believe it is fair to assume that there is no buyout.
Also, no one knows for sure what CMA’s current salary is. A google search suggests that it is $2.5M but it may be larger than $2.5M.
I doubt that any of the assistants have multi year contracts, but, if so, that could also add to the cost of change.
Quite certain every Head Coach in D1 basketball has a buyout clause in their contract so it is not fair to assume there is no buyout. Either way cutting ties with him won't be cheap but it won't cost as much as however much he would be owed in salary from now until the end of his term if he were to stay. You’re correct that the terms of the contract will survive termination; unless anyone has seen the contract then I believe it is fair to assume that there is no buyout.

Otis didn't CMA sign a 6 year extension in May of 2021? If so, that takes us to May 2027. 4 1/2 more years. Also, Shanley signed off on that contract extension which, in and of itself, makes me question how shrewd a businessman he actually is. Spoke with Mike Cragg for a while before the game. Hard not to like him. We didn't talk hoops much, more about family, etc. Having said that, something tells me(nothing he said) that he's as disappointed as the rest of us and is not going to let this situation continue for very long. Just my gut.I don’t pretend to know Fr. Are you including everything into that 4 mill number? as in staff salaries etc? That seems way high for just him.2 things:
1) His annual salary is definitely in excess of $4 million per. Not sure where you got that $2.5 mil figure from but no one outside of Shaheen at SHU makes that small amount in BE or any high major.
2) There is zero chance his contract is fully guaranteed.
I’m watching waiting for Hurley to get a T. It’s coming!I'm watching the PC vs UCONN game. We're dead meat. I'm predicting that this will be CMA's very first losing season. The state of this program is very sad.

Might not have Bynum it appearsWe get Providence between their games at home vs Conn and @ Creighton. "Spots" and let down games are real in college basketball. Not saying I think that'll elevate us to a win in this one but there's a chance we could catch them a little sleepy.
No its north of $4 million. Are you including everything into that 4 mill number? as in staff salaries etc? That seems way high for just him.
Edit found this that lists Cooley as around 3.5 mill and 23rd highest in the country.
