Ugh, I'll be there. Was so looking forward to this game in November....

I posted this post (see below in bold and italics) on December 18th about our next six (at that time) upcoming Big East games. I thought we would possibly go 4 and 2 or in a worst case 3 and 3 over those six games. Obviously I was wrong and the wheels have fallen off the bus. Turning things around has to start with playing strong defense, but I see no evidence that strong defense is coming anytime soon. Finding a way to somehow beat Providence will forestall the season from totally imploding, but again this does not seem that likely based on our play.

Our next six Big East games (before we have to go to UConn on January 15th) will set the tone for the season. We have struggled to get off to fast starts in league play but will hopefully do better this year. Under CMA here is how we have fared against these opponents in Big East regular season play:

1) At Villanova 0-3
2) Xavier at home 2-1
3) At Seton Hall 1-2
4) Marquette at home 1-1
5) At Providence 1-2
6) Butler at home 2-1

I think it is important for this team to improve on these past results and get positioned to finish near the top of the league. I am not sure if we will be favored in more than half of these games, but we certainly should not be huge underdogs in any of them. Establishing a winning culture in league play will determine what type of year we will have.

Wanted to go to this away game, now not so much.

I see Fr. Shanley going there to meet and greet all of his old friends, and shaking his head over where we now stand as a Team. I hope he is not shaking his head over taking our Presidency.

Maybe he can convince Cooley to change horses, as much as I don't like EC, you have to hand it to him, year in, year out with different casts of players he does alright.

Like him or not, Ed Cooley is a very good BB Coach . He has proven that over his tenure at PC . He loves being the Friar Coach and has declined offers from bigger programs . I think Fr Shanley is upfront saying he roots for St John’s except against Providence. As for now being St John’s President , I think he realizes it’s a entirely different School than PC . Providence as a City is not NY and doesn’t rely on attracting students from just the New England area, as St John’s does with the Met Area. It’ a good School Academically. Shanley had a lot to do with righting their Brand and getting the BB Program fixed . He hired Cooley after Welsh and Beno Davis struggled .

Cooley is an excellent coach, but he's a Providence guy; he's not leaving there to come to NYC.

Agree that Cooley is an excellent coach, but he did coach for several years at Fairfield U., which is for all intents and purposes, in a suburb of NYC. I don't think it's likely that he would ever come to St. John's. But then again, never say never.

Why would he leave PC for St. John’s? Seems random that’ll never happen.

Agree that it's not likely to happen. He is very happy at PC. But hey, money talks. And if the money is right, who knows? Again, I agree that it's probably not likely. Pitino more likely than Ed Cooley, IMHO.
