All of the big east games look like they will be a struggle with the away games obviously being more of a challenge. Turning Butler over twenty four times and losing is obviously a red flag going forward. SJU has to shoot much better , especially in the last few minutes of close games where they have been terrible.
Since we can count on most of the games going down to the wire this is another bad omen. Heron and/or LJ have to start making baskets when they count.
Well somebody has to for sure. Concerned about our penchant to play the clock way too early in games; I don’t think that is coaching direction but rather inexperience driving it.
To be honest, LJ has to really start picking up his game. Imo his shot selection has been poor & he is reaching too much defensively.

Lastly, playing at solid level over full game is essential on this offensively challenged team. Have been a big fan of his, but just trying to be objective.

LJ still seems more suited as a secondary option on offense, as he was last year, rather than the primary one. Unfortunately there is no one else to step in to the role of the primary option. Even when healthy, don’t see Heron filling that role. Agree that LJ needs to play smarter and make better decisions on both ends of the court. Even if he is not carrying us offensively, his presence on the court is crucial to our success moving forward.

Aw, it would be a shame to break Xavier's 9 game winning streak. :p

Coach Anderson is the tactician that can do it. Hoping Heron & LJ will put some big points on the board. A lot depends on Heron being 100% and ready to play.

I expect another hard fought game that may go down to the final seconds of play. The Johnnies will be very fortunate to win this one on the road.

Looking forward to this game and a upset road win for St John's.

BOTTOM LINE: Xavier looks for its 10th straight win in the head-to-head series over St. John’s. In its last nine wins against the Red Storm, Xavier has won by an average of 11 points. St. John’s’ last win in the series came on Feb. 23, 2015, a 58-57 victory.

Don’t like the matchup & Xavier obviously a beast at home. Marshall & Jones play well v Johnnies.

I rewatched the Butler game to see why we were getting beaten on the boards. One thing I noted was that Earlington changed his tactics when we were trying to score. He was away from the basket and when shots went up he looked for the player that was his defensive assignment and retreated back to the defensive side of the court following his man, with no attempt for offensive rebounds, which has been a strength for us this season.

Down the stretch in crucial game deciding possessions I seem to remember (and can’t get myself to rewatch) butler getting 2-3 long offensive rebounds that were in the area of the court where LJ would have been a big help. Obviously as one of our better rebounders, but in particular his penchant for chasing then down away from the rim. That is where I thought we missed him most in last few minutes of game.

BTW I’m probably his biggest fan but that fourth foul was legitimately one of the most surprising things I’ve seen from an sju player. I couldn’t believe what I was watching, especially from him.

Like Earlington’s nose for ball, physicality & offensive rebounding, but CMA will help him better understand his limitations. Don’t need him hurling deep jumpers.

Thank goodness for
somethings but if we continue shooting the low % we will lucky to win
4 games inBE play
I love the team energy but Let’s be real we either start shooting better and stop putting ourselves
In a hole or we are in trouble .Hope coach give a message to figgy he doesn’t have to shoot 40 footers
definitely not confident in this game
LJ and Heron better step up. still waiting.
If not then it's likely 0-2 for us.

Those 2 need to carry this team.

If you're looking for some hope, Xavier has not shot the ball well. Perhaps our defense exacerbates their deficiency. Their field goal percentage (44.2%) is 8th best in the league. We are 9th at 42.2%. Providence has shot the worst percentage from the field (41.7%).

For 3pt percentages, Xavier is dead last in the league at 29.4%. We are second to last at 30.5%.

*All percentages are from prior to today's contests.

We just lost to a top 20 team by 2 points with LJ laying a goose egg and Heron on the bench. If LJ played half as well as normal we win nicely. They absolutely do not need to carry the team but rather just to play well and we will be in every game.

True, but maybe if LJ gave us something in the 1st half vs. Butler, we don't go down 21 at the half, maybe down 13-14pnts instead of 21. Then spend all that energy just to get back in the game in the 2nd half.
sorry North, but he and Heron has to show up. They were the 2 stars returning right?

I agree they have to show up and play well but you said “ they have to carry the team “.
There is a world of difference between the two statements.

Would be nice if they had it in them to just go off, so to avoid 0-2.

Why isn't FOX listing this game on it's schedule? Where can I watch it on Cablevision?

What's your local FOX affiliate? It'll be shown right after the ending of the Vikings/Saints game.
