This is only a must win if you believe we can finish 6th or better in conference.   A split against a middle of the pack team would go a long way to believing we can.   Not reasonable for fans to expect a win, but should we win, season expectations are upgraded.

Massey gives St. John's a 37% chance of defeating Marguette on Sunday forecasting a final score of St. John's 73 to Marquette 77.

We need to win this game.  Marquette has 2 straight losses, we have 3 straight wins.  its setup for a marquette win.

But, If we could sqweak it out, what a night Wednesday would be having Nova coming to Carnesseca as we are on a 4 game winning streak.  WOW!!!

Have to limit their offensive rebounds which has been a glaring deficiency.

It's important to compete.  Win or lose, the team needs to stay in the game on the road.

The question is what adjustments each team will make having seen the other before.  Last game Marquette got balanced scoring with 5 players who had at least 9 points (John 9, Garcia 11, Lewis and Elliot both 13, Carton 14).  Either Carton or Garcia could easily go for a lot more.

Our team was dependent on Champagnie (20) and Williams (15).  However since then Posh, Cole and Moore have all come on, so we may have better balanced scoring this time around.

You know Marquette will be focused on cutting down the 19 turnovers it had last time, and we should be focused on giving up less than 46% shooting from the field.

If Marquette can't take better care of the ball and St John's plays better D, it's a winnable game.

We need to keep Josh Roberts on the floor.  I know he does not bring to much offensively, but he is the key to everything on the defensive end and rebounding.  He needs to be out there 30 minutes a game IMO.

I think Josh Roberts is a key component to our defense and is a valuable contributor in general but he has never ever in his entire SJU career played 30 minutes in a Big East game. This season he averages about ten and a half minutes a game and last season he averaged nineteen minutes a game.  Hopefully on Sunday he can keep out of foul trouble, stay on the floor and be effective. When we last played Marquette he played twenty minutes and blocked four shots. That kind of contribution will help prevent Marquette from dominating us on the interior.

Beast, agree it is not reasonable for fans to expect a road win against a mid pack BE team who beat us at home and would hope Board doesn't blow up with negativity if we lose a close one Sunday. On the other hand, it is definitely a winnable game as (i) we are playing a bit better now than we were around the first time we played, (ii) we could have and probably should have won that game and (iii) road wins are not as difficult w/o large fan crowds. Greg played very well in the first game and it would really help our chances if he is ready to play some effective minutes on Sunday; also really important that Josh stays out of early foul trouble.   Hoping for the best and expect a close game either way. Just thankful the game is Sunday rather than tomorrow as it allows me to move our son back to college Saturday and not miss this game, especially since I had to miss the first Marquette game. Go Johnnies!

Moore will be the key to the Game. My thought is if he plays well on both sides of the ball and others give their normal contribution we schould be ok. Also looking for a big game from Dunn. His floor game is getting better.

Looking for the Duke to position himself and box out.  Need to have our bigger guys keep Marquette from dominating the boards.

In other words we can't let Theo John play like Pauly Paulicap. /media/kunena/emoticons/ermm.png

Good analysis!   I agree that it is winnable.   Roberts has a hard time staying out of foul trouble against better BE competition.  Even vs. DePaul  4 fouls in 10 minutes kept him glued to bench.    It would really be great if Toro woke up and could allow us to give 15 fouls out of center.    Good luck with the move - safe driving!

One word preview: Revenge

We are playing much better than we were 15 days ago when we lost a very close game to Marquette. In fact we are playing our best basketball now. That imho bodes well and how sweet a W would be.
I like the trend under Coach Anderson - improve as the season progresses.

Need Moore, Earlington and Cole to have a much better game then they had in the first matchup against Marquette.
Have to do a bettter job on stopping  freshmen Lewis and keep a body on John.

We are at a crossroads right now to save our season. No expectation of winning, but splitting with Marquettenwould be huge for us.  We are playing much better, but it has to start moving the needle with wins.  Either we did out of our early season Big East hole or we don't. We will see what our guys have. Wouldn't mind kicking the tires on Nywie for even a few sparse minutes to give height guarding a big like Garcia or a foul or two.  Toro hasn't offered us a heck of a lot and don't see how it could hurt us much. I'm doubtful that GWill will be healthy enough to give us what we need from him so best to be conservative until he's 100%
