Of course, if we win this game our psychotic fan base will quickly flip from one that projected we may never win another big east game this season to one asserting that perhpas even a 6th or 7th place finish is possible.   Although I put us at 7 to 9 wins before the season, I would say 9 is not happening, 7 is possible, although I wouldn't wager on that either.

Let's just hope for some better play from a group that doesn't appear as talented as we believed.   Not sure what they are capable of ultimately, but am confident they can and will play better as the season progresses.

Marquette is much tougher than Butler, has some really talented newcomers, good guards, a tough guy in the middle and firepower. That said Wojo to me underachieves with talent. I am looking forward to this one. I too have limited expectations for this group this year, but enjoy watching good players go after it. This should be a fun watch.

Agree, Marquette has talent but it seems to me that Wojo is in a similar place to Anderson, just not enough time with a largely new group to get all of the pieces on the same page.  Marquette should be favored by a few points but if SJU comes out focused they have a chance to win.

I am also not a fan of Wojo's coaching.  His approach with Markus Howard was not all that different than Mullin's with Ponds.  Not only do I dislike that approach in general as bad basketball (even if it wins some games), in Wojo's case it was a criminal misuse of the other talent he had on that roster.  No surprise the Hausers took a walk on him, I wouldn't have played for him either in that situation.

Asked around a bit about St. John's forward Josh Roberts. A few things I've been told. He's performed much better in practice. Was slowed by a groin injury earlier in year. Either way, sounds like Tuesday was not a one-time thing. He's going to get a real chance now. #sjubb

I watched part of the Marquette game the other night. They have a 6'11" freshman, Garcia, who has been playing well and is paired with John, a physical 6'9" senior who plays down low. Their size could cause matchup problems for us. They also have D.J. Carton, a touted transfer from Ohio State.

Looking forward to the game. Should be a good one to watch.

I've watched Marquette a lot this season, including last night. Not saying that we can't win, but they are a much more talented team then us this year and it's gonna be tough to beat them.  For starters, they have an extremely mobile Top 25  7' big man in Garcia, to pair up with tough as nails Theo John. Those 2 alone could cause us fits down low. Carton has been playing well and they can score from outside. We will need to bring our A+ game to beat them IMO. We'll also need a huge game from Champ. How we played yesterday definitely won't cut it.

Basically, Marquette, with a great incoming class, is capable of beating any team in the league on any given night (see Creighton).  Because of inexperience, they can also lose to just about anyone.  If Wojo can keep these guys and add more talent, before long this team should be competing at the top of the conference.

Winnable game for us, but Marquette should be favored by as 6-8 points.

Can't see Marquette being that big of a favorite.  Even taking all of our struggles into account, we've only lost once at home, and that was to a top 10 team.  Yes, Marquette's better then Gtown or Butler, but we also won those without too much difficulty.  I expect it to be more like 1 or 2 points, either way.

How does Theo John still have eligibility? Feels like he’s been around for a decade

This is exactly right but I fear SJU is catching them in a bad spot.  I think Marquette aftr a slow start and some close losses is now poised to rebound with that win over Providence.   I think like most of the top 7 teams in the conference (the 4 bottom teams being Butler, DePaul, G-town and SJU) they feel they cannot under any circumstance lose to any of the bottom 4 especially at home which means they will be extra focused.

Small correction this is a SJU home game so I would expect a closer line, maybe 3-4 points.  Thought the game was in Milwaukee.

He went as John Theo the first four years.

There are some players who it feels like we've had to play against for unreasonably long periods of time.  I'd swear that Archediacono was at Nova for 7 or 8 years.  Kamar Baldwin had to be at least 6 years at Butler.  Delgado was at Seton Hall for at least a decade.  Alpha Diallo spent at least 8 years at Providence, I'd swear.

I know what you mean about Theo John but for whatever reason it doesn't feel like that to me with him.

Eli Cain & Phil Booth were most recents that felt like eternity to me,,, and Jermaine Samuels is the current one that made me shake head at start of season..

Will Moore be playing ? With Marquette having John and Garcia we are going to need both Moore and Robert's on the court and being productive.

I agree.  They can be sloppy with the ball and will have defensive lapses.  But, if we don't bring it on D then they will light up the scoreboard.

That was really funny. I needed that. Well done !

Ken Pom has SJU losing by three (78-75).  Ken also has SJU losing out, including a loss at DePaul.
