Zaun, I gotta ask. Clearly this is sarcasm because you are upset the board does not like your negative posts. But do you really believe this board has an agenda against being negative, or are people just against posters being over the top negative?

Cause I've seen your work on holyland. It is not exactly well received over there either... is that site biased against negativity too? I am not even denying that maybe you have not always gotten a fair shake on here, but you do realize a lot of it has to do with the nature of your posts, right?

You have to see that. And listen I am not saying there is anything wrong with being a little over the top sometimes, being a fan is an emotional thing and you come on here to vent and that is fine by me. You can be over the top and emotional all you want, but just be self aware of it, and don't just come at the entire culture of this great forum just because your posts are not always well received.

When you got banned or demoted or whatever, mostly everyone questioned why, we wanted you back on here. If there was a really agenda against negative posters no one would have rallied around you getting brought back. I am just trying to give some perspective.

Hey Zaun...... Your repetitive postings of senseless drivel is tiring.

Another great post from a 50 year old brain in a 20 year old body.

Your posts are so good Jack, I can't fathom how you let Dinkins knucklehead identity theories bother you. I'd love to hear his thoughts on who really shot JFK. I say that but also say Dinkins is a great guy.

Big team with ever improving young guards v our undersized, talented squared. I’ll go with Johnnies at home.

If one stands back objectively & looks at SJU performances to date inconsistency is legitimate concern. I only recall three or four A game performances thus far & it seems time for another before the three challenging road games around the corner.

The question isn't are they good, it's are they good enough

Jack, I'm really not trying to pile on. Fair post and I have to work on not posting every thought I have. I suppose it is a type of venting, but there's surely reason to vent. I do think it's undeniable that this forum is by in large only welcoming to positive perspectives no matter how harsh the reality may really be. Many are scared to post what they really think and others simply virtue-signal "Look, I'm a good person because I still believe even at 0-11" or whatever even if it makes no sense objectively. I don't notice this with any other fanbase. Obviously we aren't 0-11 but giving an example from last year. The frustration comes from a big letdown thus far.

We were expecting to cruise through OOC and we did. Thus, I was pleased. Then conference play started and we come out slow out of the gate and dig a hole...again. This is the 4th straight year of that. 3-4 last year wouldn't have been a poor start, but this year it is. Please don't confuse my frustration with giving up on the team. I will continue to root like a nut for this team to succeed and maybe they go on a run here against all odds. But we only won 2 in a row this season in conference play once and we needed OT vs. G'Town to do so. As Paultz has said, we are wildly inconsistent and that's a recipe for disaster in a year when you need 10-11 wins in conference play. Getting double digit wins requires consistency of some level. If there's been one constant under Mullin, it's inconsistency and turnover. I'm just noticing the smoke and I don't think I'm wrong for that.

Quite possibly not.

They are talented enough. The question is are they prepared, disciplined and structured enough?

I hope this year we have 20 Ws
1 BE tourney W
NCAA appearance w a W

As w many coaches overhauling a dire program sometines imo - like it or not and I don’t like it - it takes an extra year... I think of Mike K at Duke and PJ Carlissemo at S Hall among others...it took years ( even if not as many years as we have here)
I hope my estimates above are reached 2018-19 however
Perhaps next season will be further progress and the turning of the corner - we certainly have decent talent ahead even if Shamorie departs.
All the best

They'll be prepared. The discipline and structure are much harder to define in the system we run. A free wheeling flowing offense can be devastating. Sometimes to our opponent, sometimes to us, often in the same game.

This is absolutely a must win game to avoid what could be a season changing losing streak. I'm not sure getting just 4 or 5 points from the combination of Keita, Williams and Trimble off the bench will be enough to offset any possible bad games by any of the starters. We will need some creative coaching and key substitutions.

I love the talent on this team, but always knew there would be a price to pay for the lack of size. I am still confident we have not "peeked" or played our best ball. When we do, although it may be with very little margin for error, I think we can still dance.

To further ensure our chances, I hope Mullin will continue to expand Greg Williams' role. If we need to make a run in the BE tournament, we will need a larger rotation to survive the consecutive game days. Not to mention, we are only one injury away from Greg having to immediately assume 10 minutes a game.

My unschooled sense is that our offense was at its best with Figgy slashing in and out of a high post position, posing a quick basket threat to opposing bigs and opening driving and passing lanes for Ponds to exploit as the maestro. Would appreciate feedback on whether this has any validity or is just misobservation by someone whose formal training was coaching football.

Going Into this season SJU had two areas that had to be improved in order to have a successful season ( NCAA bid).
1 lack of big men - the injury to Kieta made a bad situation even worse and yet I think the team has improved in their rebounding and in most games their defense to overcome this deficiency
2 lack of bench - failure no matter how you, look at it - losing Dixon hurt because he was the only bench player able to provide any offense. I will continue to hold out the hope that with this full week of practice the staff will get Kieta and Williams to a point where they can increase their offensive production
What is terribly troubling is Clark's comment following the Butler game that the effort was lacking. Twelve games in about forty days before the regular season ends with the strong possibility that the players who leave this year will never have made the tournament. How can you not play hard every game?

Good point Fuschia, I also think that we need to use our speed and athleticism and take the ball to the hoop early instead of throwing up threes as we usually do. This will get us some easy baskets early and hopefully get a few quick fouls on Govan or one of their other bigs. Then we can play the drive and kick game to set up some open threes which is much better than just passing the ball around the perimeter in that 5 out offense and shooting tough contested threes to start the game.

Defensively, their freshman guards are very aggressive, Akinjo and McClung, we have to pressure them and try to turn them over. If we can’t turn them over, then at least make them pick up their dribble and pass the ball to lesser ball handler. We will also need Keita to play good defense on Govan we he is in the game. Govan , if we can’t get him into early foul trouble driving the ball, will get some points but if Keita can limit him when he’s in the game that would be huge. Georgetown is improving , it will be close, we need this game big time.
