I got a question for making plays or/and big red since they followed cma everywhere.
I know he subs alot, but why take out the hot hand, you should go with him until he cools off.
Does he think that to hot and are about to cool off, so he takes the guy out? I'd say let him cool off first then take him out.
Do you have a specific example? Because only hot hands I can think of as of late have been Dunn and LJ and both of them have been averaging over 30 MPG the last several games, they haven't been on the bench much at all. Heron you may can include in that list the 3 games before Villanova, but he's coming off an injury and has been noticeably slower, so of course aren't going to push him past a certain limit.
But to answer your question, CMA says he goes by an honor system, he tells guys to go as hard as they can for as long as they can, and when they get tired raise their hand to come out. As far as I know, the only time he'll take a hot hand out, is if that guy raises his hand and asks to come out or if he seems them visibly slowing down he'll sub them out. You may not notice it sometimes when the player raises his hand, It's really hard to play that pressing style for long periods of time without a break.
I know in ooc one game champ had 6pnts in the first 3 minutes, CMA took him out at the under 16. 0 pnts the rest of the half.
Julian scored 6 more to start the 2nd half, and again takes him out at the under 16.
I remember then going nut and yelling. Sure enough 0pnts the rest of the game.
I'm sure I seen others taken out but not remembering.
Even on JJ some said they seen the same.
To me they can't be really tired if they're hot on the floor. I'd only raise my hands if I started cooling off, wouldn't care if it felt like my legs were going to fall off.
Cma would literally have to come on the court and drag me off.
Scoring 6 points in 3 minutes at the beginning of the game isn't going to stop many coaches on rotating a player in or out in their normal rotation. Near the end of the game or in the middle of a big run is a different story, and I can't recall CMA ever doing that.
One example I can give you is David Caraher during the Umass game, he came in around the first media timeout in the second half, and I don't think he ever came out of the game, they went on a run and he was making shots, CMA joked in the post press conference saying he kept waiting for him to raise his hand to come out, but he never did, and he let him keep playing. That was the game Caraher had 17 points.
Edit: Also, I can remember several times role players like Earlington and Williams were playing really well and scoring and CMA would let them stay on the floor until they missed a couple of shots. As of a matter of fact CMA was criticized by some for riding guys that were hot on the comeback against Butler, and not putting the starters back in to close the game.
Some people think certain players are stars and should be in no matter what.
On a side note:
There's a potential Coronavirus case in chinatown, so that is big news since that's nyc.
I would have put it in that other thread but it's locked, despite it not political.
