First game this year that I won't be watching live (either in person, or on TV). I'll be at Yankees-Tigers at Steinbrenner Field.

Hopefully, the boys can get a win in my absence. Tough matchup, but as high as Xavier is flying right now, that's how far Depaul has fallen lately, so if Heron is back strong, I think we have a good chance.

Our dance invitation is sitting there, waiting for us to take it by beating Depaul. If not, we have a good chance of ending the season on a 4 game losing streak, and there will be no bid this season.

They have to be careful here if they lose out depending on how things break they could be playing on Wednesday at the BE Tourney...

The good news is that the two nine loss teams, Butler and Creighton, play Marquette and Nova on the road this weekend (I'll post the exact matchups later tonight). So, you're probably looking at 4 10-loss teams at least, by the end of the weekend.

Also, 7-8 Seton Hall plays 7-8 Georgetown. So, one of those teams will get to .500, but on the other end, one of them will also fall back.

Playing DePaul reminds me of the most annoying thing about this season on a team desperate for a big man Mullin couldn’t find the time to show up the day Femi came to campus! Tell me we couldn’t have really used that guy this year and he’s from Long Island if Mullin was present guarantee you he would have came here over DePaul. He sure seemed pumped up and destroyed us the first game as a sort of FU to our staff for not showing him the respect to show up for his visit.

Right before GTown home game:

"If we don't put these two in win ledger concerned we may regret it quickly. Even with a split, would need to go 4-3 over a 7 game stretch that includes Nova and @Marq just to get to 8-8...and would then be faced with must win games to close the year @DePaul and @Xavier. SJU basketball being SJU basketball, would prefer to avoid that scenario :)

:( Only getting a split by losing to GTown at home to drop to 3-5 (before the W @Creighton) made the math very challenging and unfortunately we needed a lot to fall right to fully recover and avoid being in this position. Frankly we did very well all considered (2-0 against Marg/Nova on back half) just to get to 4-3 over the last 7 since Duke to be 8-8 heading into these last 2 road games.

Going 5-4 at home in conference this year is a joke. In fairness one loss was without Ponds and one was without Heron, and chances are good at least one goes the other direction if they play. 6-3 wouldn't be a joke. But that's the thin margin for error and something many teams deal with, and lacking depth forcing more reliance on core only exacerbates potential issues.

Hopefully the next 2 are Ws for a very respectable 5-4 road performance / 10-8 overall. Obviously at least need the split to avoid unnecessary drama heading into BET.

First game at CA featured a 28-6 FT disparity in favor of the visitors. Nathan Farrell on the whistle too, that night.

Even if you think Mullin was 100% wrong, these two clearly can't coexist on the court together. They obviously can't settle it amongst themselves, so the league has to do something, IMO. Team can't get a fair whistle with really any of the refs, but especially this guy.

Agreed, but it's still not as infuriating as the first loss (win) against Seton Hall. Most of this would be moot if we had that game in the win column.

There used to be a site that tracked all the officials and the games they worked. I think the site was taken down over the last few years.

Yeah, Statsheet. It has been gone awhile now.

I was big fan of that site. If anything, it exposed just how overworked these guys are. Of course, the alternative would mean to employ more refs, and the guys we have now are incompetent enough, so I hate to think what the next rung would look like.

Just realized I'm landing in Chicago around noon on Sunday. Wait this game is being played at 11am local time? WTF is that about.

Farrell is awful. That said, once these big guys get the ball in good position (down low in the paint), smaller guys have to aggressively go for the ball and wind up fouling.

He made comments to the effect that it was payback...so, your point is valid

My worry is that they get swept by DePaul, Providence and Xavier and as you say 3-4 teams finish at 8-10 and somehow after all the permutations they lose tiebreakers and fall to 7th.

One way to eliminate that feeling, win the F'n game on Sunday. Cannot get swept by DePaul. And keep in mind DePaul is starting to look like well DePaul. They have lost 5 in a row I think and are back in last place. Cannot lose this game...

Guarantee is a strong word. Would you also guarantee the reasons why Mullin wasn't on campus? Would you guarantee that mullin had never min et him outspoken to him? Do you guarantee that he didn't come here because Mullin wasnt on campus?

Can almost guarentee that Mullen did not reach out to him with an excuse either before or afterward

Was the team able to make it out OK, with the weather?

My flight to Tampa was cancelled this morning, though I think that had to do with low capacity, combined with the snow. Still, it was pretty nasty out there for a bit, and who knows what the Chicago weather is like?
