The positives to winning this game are basically it keeps St. John's metrics steady rather than sinking, we stack another conference win and it keeps up the narrative that SJU is a "hot" team. There's really nothing else to be gained here.

The consequences of losing are pretty massive though. DePaul is VERY bad in a down year for the conference. Their current NET is #179. That is extrememly low for a Big East team. To give a sense of how bad they are, the teams just above and below them are Mt St Mary's and La Salle. Losing this would be treated by the metrics as the equivalent of losing at home to a mid-level NEC team or a pretty bad A10 team. That's potentially a death blow for a bubble team this late. DePaul is just a poison pill floating out there for Big East bubble teams.

Just treat it with seriousness that the tournament is on the line, get the W and keep everyone as healthy as possible.

One game at a time.  Just win, and don't give me a heart attack by making it close.

This game doesn't appear to have much upside, but keep in mind most other bubble teams have at least 1 more game like this remaining on their schedule. The majority of bubble teams this year are surprisingly teams from conferences such as the MW, MV, A10 and AAC. Those teams have even fewer opportunties than we do to get Q1/Q2 wins, and further have more "DePauls/must wins" on their schedules. Take care of business tomorrow and then look to make moves in bracketology. Really, we have far more opportunity to punch our ticket than most other teams.

Why does a 12.5 point line scare the crap out of me?
Because St. John's is the one team Vegas hasn't figured out. Especially when favored. /media/kunena/emoticons/cool.png

It should scare us because players will think they do not have to play as hard. We need to get off to good starts always

We should hope for a substantial Win . A close game against the Demons might actually impair our rankings . Cover the Spread or more .

I wonder if this line is impacted by the fact that both Moore & Freeman-Liberty sat out last game and may or may not play tonight. I haven't seen anything on their status for tonight's game.

I'm looking forward to the day when Johnnie's victories are the norm. Fans expect the team to win and losses are a unpleasant surprise.
We're not there yet. There's always a question of which version of the Johnnie's will play. The team that beat Villanova or the one that lost at Butler?
I expect a DePaul win. Losing would be a major step backwards for the programs bid for the tournament.

im looking at this line as a good thing- when i see Depaul +12.5, i would instinctly wanna grab that. Given my betting instincts are awful - that means SJU is gonna blow this line away lol

Freeman-Liberty a big loss for Depaul. The one game they won (beat Marquette on the road) they did it with big games from him and Moore and by getting to the line 24 times to Marquette's 9 (Moore & Freeman Liberty a collective 15-15 from there).

However, I learned the hard way from my prior post that Butler had noone who could hurt us that there are no BIG East games that can be assumed victories before they're played and Depaul did win their one BE game on the road.
We should win but can't worry about NCAAs until we have put this one away because if we lose it is very hard to see us dancing absent winning the BE tourney. Let's go Johnnies!   Have already told my wife it's a good Saturday night for her to watch a Netflix movie I wouldn't like lol.
