The positives to winning this game are basically it keeps St. John's metrics steady rather than sinking, we stack another conference win and it keeps up the narrative that SJU is a "hot" team. There's really nothing else to be gained here.
The consequences of losing are pretty massive though. DePaul is VERY bad in a down year for the conference. Their current NET is #179. That is extrememly low for a Big East team. To give a sense of how bad they are, the teams just above and below them are Mt St Mary's and La Salle. Losing this would be treated by the metrics as the equivalent of losing at home to a mid-level NEC team or a pretty bad A10 team. That's potentially a death blow for a bubble team this late. DePaul is just a poison pill floating out there for Big East bubble teams.
Just treat it with seriousness that the tournament is on the line, get the W and keep everyone as healthy as possible.
