Watched Creighton twice and in both games their FT shooting killed them. They do score in bunches and rotate ball crisply so imo defensive concentration is a must for SJU. It does not look like their bigs are much, but Mahoney is one of those junk yard dog types who can be a problem. Last year we gave them trouble being physical, but smart defensively. I agree SJU can beat them, but suggest a rock fight v a shootout.
Paultz, i also think that shot selection on the offensive end is huge for us. When we are not getting steals, running the floor and getting easy baskets , we need to get good quality shots when we are in our half court offense. If we don’t, and we start taking bad shots and chucking up threes, those bad shots are going lead to long rebounds for Creighton which will turn into quick open threes for them on the other end. That will be a killer for us.
Can’t argue with that.

Obviously not expecting an sudden awakening with highly effective half court D, although improvement would be nice. That said, transitional D after scores, turnovers seems prudent. Have to find those open three point shooters on breaks, which they do well, and at least make it difficult. Otherwise this becomes a “mail in” loss to me.

Thirty per cent of SJUs field goal attempts were threes against SH, less than fifteen per cent vs GEO. Keeping that number down is a must.

I’d like to see us come out playing a Zone. Hopefully, we’ll be able to stay close. Open the second half with 20 minutes of hell. We need better spacing on offense with Champ getting more touches.

Not bad depending how you look at it :)

St Johns opens as a 5.5-point underdog at home against No. 9 Creighton

Creighton flying into NYC this afternoon following practice, so should be able to get in for game tomorrow at St. John's, I'm told.

Vegas thinks we are going to be competitive tomorrow. Good news!
The way Creighton bangs down threes, this is a 15 point loss. Our pressure will not bother Zegarowski.
My hope is CMA doesn't press. They are too fast and will easily break our full court press, leading to wide open threes. Let's play tight man to man and take our chances. Can't leave Zagarowski, Ballock or Mahoney open. Do not leave these guys to help out.

Exactly, in half court defense stay with your man so 3s are contested and avoid the scramble D where we run at a 3 point shooter way too late giving up basically a wide open shot.

Not counting on a win against a good Creighton squad. But hoping for one to turn around these constant bad BE starts; this one if we somehow get it might be a catalyst. Point spread makes me think someone might see something here we don't, not near the double digit loss most see coming.

Go Johnnies.

it would be great if we could win games in bunches the way the team gets points in bunches. It's the long droughts of wins and points I worry about.

Think that’s the beginning of a sublime song

If sju can win this, they'll have a great chance to getting to 500 when playing g-town at home on Sunday.
Then yoj
You enjoy the 9 days off unless they play an ooc game that they're looking to do.

Amen to this.

Ballock and Zegarowski will torch the nets if we leave them wide open.
