Of course v us, this will improve :)

Greg McDermott on the #Jays' FT shooting: "In another big game, we really struggled to make them, which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Because in practice these guys have done a really good job with that.”
9-18 at KU. 14-25 vs. Marquette.
So what you're saying is that good coaches are able to improve on things that their teams don't do well at the beginning of the year? Huh.

Thanks for the update. Makes sense as by that time the storm should have passed. So the crack meteorologists claim! ;-)

I don't say this frivolously, but Creighton is beatable. We'll need to bring our A game on both ends of the court, but we can win this one.

Just our luck, Zegarowski was 0 for 7 from 3. He won't stink up the court 2 games in a row.

But Ballock, who can shoot but was averaging just 7+PPG before the Marquette game, had a career game against Marquette. So maybe he cools down and balances out Zegarowski

Not to mention at some point it's got to be about us and not them all the time. We're coming off 2 losses to open the BE season. we are at home so it's time to play well and let the chips fall where they may.

The thing with this team and system is you really never know. We've looked bad and lost our first two conference games this year, but I would not at all be surprised if we win this one. Our speed and athleticism gave them some problems last year so hopefully this year can be more of the same

Watched Creighton twice and in both games their FT shooting killed them. They do score in bunches and rotate ball crisply so imo defensive concentration is a must for SJU. It does not look like their bigs are much, but Mahoney is one of those junk yard dog types who can be a problem. Last year we gave them trouble being physical, but smart defensively. I agree SJU can beat them, but suggest a rock fight v a shootout.

Agree. The two areas where we have an advantage with Creighton are rebounding and foul shooting. Suggest we need to see a lot of Earlington and crash the offensive boards; we can be aggressive inside as their only two really tall players play very limited minutes. Creighton is second to us in BE in steals so need to be ready for spot pressure on our guys.
I can take losing this one if we give it our best shot but really don't want to see us take our best players out at the same time again because these guys can quickly outscore us by 15 or 20 points if we do.

Yeah, but we don't play that way, it's going to be a track meet.

Good luck with that & btw 38-35 lead in that half game BE T game last year, a reasonable template from defensive perspective perhaps.

For programs like St. John's, the pressure mounts until the team gets its first Big East win. We need a win and soon.

I don't disagree with you, but the coaching is to press, trap, and get out and run. Creighton will oblige with that. And I haven't seen anything that suggests we are suddenly going to be a lockdown defensive team in the halfcourt. It wouldn't surprise me if we score 85 - and Creighton goes over the century mark.

Paultz, i also think that shot selection on the offensive end is huge for us. When we are not getting steals, running the floor and getting easy baskets , we need to get good quality shots when we are in our half court offense. If we don’t, and we start taking bad shots and chucking up threes, those bad shots are going lead to long rebounds for Creighton which will turn into quick open threes for them on the other end. That will be a killer for us.
