A lot depends on Heron's return and confidence.
Heron's game was so unpredictable in the early games.

I feel much better that the team has found ways to win without him. But, Heron is a crucial shooter they will need going into the conference games. I hope three weeks rest will see him return to his best form.

St John's has a good chance against Butler if Heron plays well.

Heron's play against good teams was concerning. i am wondering if it was a pressure thing. Maybe watching us win the last few games will take the pressure off of him. Maybe he now realizes that we can win w/o him. So he can play more freely in the big games not feeling like we are relying on him to win.

Heron doesn't have to be the next LeBron every week.

I'd be thrilled if Heron consistently made at least 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 15 to 20 points. The bench has shown they will do their part. This team can be a real threat in the BE. A lot depends on how well Heron settles into BE competition.

I think the Butler game will be a bellwether for the whole season. We'll know what we have after that game. Butler is a good example of the better teams in the BE.

AZ has 3 2020 first round picks on their roster. And we were comfortabley ahead by 10-15 points for 32 minutes of that game. Butler doesnt know whats coming.
Im just not afraid of Butler at all. Ive seen them play a few times and they are nothing special. I think this is another win for SJU.[/quotes]
I love your enthusiasm but unfortunately I am afraid of every team that remains on our schedule. We are now going up against very good and well coached teams on a nightly basis and no game on paper will be an easy win for us. The two players whom we all counted on as being stars this season have been very inconsistent and the 35 points a game I was sure we would get from them together each and every game has not happened. Instead 8 other players have all stepped up and hopefully much sooner than later we can add Steere to that group, but as of now he is only a big body with potential. I hope and pray we can maintain the defensive intensity for 40 minutes a night, that Heron and LJ each play up to their all BE potential and that Steere starts to play like the 4 star recruit he was in high school. If all those things occur I will start to feel we are favoured in future games but until then I readily accept that we are the same team that can lose to Arizona State and Vermont. 2 teams that are anything but power houses.

Winning against Butler would be a very good sign, but it's only one game so I won't get too down if we lose. I have seen enough of our guys to think that if we stay healthy and Mustapha regains confidence in his outside shot (which I expect to happen) we will be competitive in most if not all BE games and should win no less than 6 and as many as 9.

Hahahahahahaaha. Im having confidence in this team until they give me a reason not too. This team has flipped a switch since the WVU game. If we were to play that VT or AZ ST game today, we would win both.

I have extreme confidence in this team and thats not wavering against a team like Butler. They arent anything special and are going to get whupped NYE.

Positive mindset. I like it. It’s something SJU fans have not been afforded for many, many years. We likely have all of our depth right now, have a lay-off to get a bit of rest and prepare, and are in CA for our first Big East game. Anderson won’t let these guys have a letdown and if we do it is just because that’s how basketball works sometimes. I think we can really cause problems with our depth here. Really wear them down and make their usually efficient offense work extremely hard to put up less points than they usually do, which isn’t all that much. Let out the hurt on. Big crowd. Foot on gas and don’t stop.

No doubt SJU can win, but hard to believe it won’t be a close one. Butler has fared well on road in some big spots, but hopefully all things come to an end.

Agree with the authentic Duke of Earlington and think we run the table for the regular season (wth why not?). :woohoo:

Winning has silenced an entire group of fans who pronounced Coach Anderson as "CTC" and worse. One thing that most can't argue about is that if and when we lose games, it won't be because our coach was too busy during a critical timeout tying his shoes or having a conversation with someone in the stands or standing over a junior assistant who was calling the plays.

Many valid opinions on this topic of the Butler game. We will win or we will lose, obvious choices lol
But to me - win or lose - the key is that we have a fine coach, competent staff and roster of hard working kids AND our program is ( finally, seemingly ) going in the right direction.
So it’s one game at a time and if I had to bet - Coach Anderson will
Keep his .500 winning streak alive.
All the best.

Even butler was picked to finish 8th. They have been a huge surprise. We have been a surprise too. Time to pack CA
I just mentioned to my 114 friends few minutes ago. If we win this game I’m going to start having visions of Lavins first year
Mike, if you drink the way you say you do you will not have any visions of any year.
I barely have visions now and hardly drink anymore :)

Three young guys who weren't expecting that disruptive wave of pressure. We were lucky enough to build a big enough lead and hang on. If we play anyone else that starts a bunch of young guys, I'm confident that we can beat them. But beating them a second time is tougher. Can also be tough beating them if they've faced a similar team before us.

Beating Butler will tell us a lot. If we get past them, I think we can really dream of postseason. I'm hoping our D gets us to 10-8 or better and we slip into tournament, because we could face a young team from a different region that hasn't faced a team like ours and end up in the win column. But knowing the committee, if our team and Arkansas both made it, they'd have us on a collision course.

There are obviously a lot of variables that will determine our success in Big East play. One thing I think would be extremely helpful is getting consistent first/second team All Big East play from Heron and Figueroa. It’s astounding that the team has played as well as it has without their two studs playing like studs in most games this year. If those two can get going, it would really help.
