Butler is last in BE in rebounding and steals and we are first in both. Not worried about their size or speed. However, they lead the league in FG percentage and generally don't turn the ball over. As others have said it is an interesting contrast in styles. They also play their starters a lot more and don't go as deep on their bench. I'm thinking that is where we might be able to give them tired legs in 2nd half so their shots stop falling and passes not as crisp.

We are going to have to make them work and tire them out. They don’t have our depth. They aren’t as athletic as Arizona. They are efficient and tiring them out should be in our game plan, especially because we have Steere and should have Heron back. Make them play sloppier than they want to.
Butler going to go into this game ranked #12 it seems. Another opportunity at home to get a huge statement top 15, Q1 win. We need to strike while we have a home court advantage here. I hope the crowd is loud and we have a full CA. IF we can grab a win here, we are in more than good shape. Get those ranked wins when you can.

could see a little LJ time as well. The way we've been switching on D we have to be alert because they run a lot of screens and picks for him so we may have to switch three times on a single play.

Dunn may spend some time checking Baldwin as well. Mustapha is our strongest backcourt player but don't want to see him picking up quick fouls on Baldwin (assuming Mustapha plays).

Baldwin is key but we can’t ignore Tucker. Last season he had the game of his life against us. We can’t let that happen again. We really have to focus on D for all 40 minutes if we are to win. Probably the most important game we have played the past 5 seasons.
the team that controls the tempo will win the game. We had some success against Albany forcing a number of 30 second violations; this is critical if we can't speed them up. Against Albany we played full 30 seconds. Let's continue and as fans we should show the team appreciation when they do. As to attendance, I agree--tough sell given no students and the time on NYE. We've been at every game including the exhibition and the open practice but won't be there on NYE. Expect low 3000's a a good number given date/time and Fox coverage.
Wow they are a big team
That is why I believe Steere will play a bigger role in this game than the last. We need bigger bodies to step up. Roberts is a "big" and plays well but he is not a banger in the traditional sense.
Im just not afraid of Butler at all. Ive seen them play a few times and they are nothing special. I think this is another win for SJU.
I'm afraid of Butler. I'll never count our team out again because they play so hard and I believe in these guys but the odds are against us here. Also a bad matchup. They shoot well. We don't. Defense is our strength. Unfortunately defense is also a strength of theirs. We hold our opponents to 66.8 ppg they hold theirs to 55.1. This is all about pace. They shoot significantly better than us but because of turnovers and pace we create more opportunities for ourselves. I agree with the idea that whoever dictates the tempo of the game probably wins.
Baldwin and Thompson both playing very well and McDermott is shooting lights out. Their only loss is by one to a Baylor team that looks like a legit Final 4 contender. They've played a much better schedule than us, yet have performed better than us in the non-con. They're the #12 team in the nation for a reason. Most of the media thinks they deserve to be higher. They're 6-1 against opponents from the P5. We're 2-1. They're very good.
We can win though. We're at home. If it's packed and rocking that will help. We play hard. They've played more talented teams than us but aside from Baylor I don't think they've played anyone as annoying as us. If we continue to rebound well and turn our opponents over we have a chance to hang with anyone. We force about 18 turnovers a game. They turn the ball over about 10 times per game which is good. They have two guys that can handle the ball. If we can get them to really have a bad night taking care of the ball (which we tend to do to people) we can pull it off.

I think Tucker is soft, so I expect him to get frustrated and disappear when actually guarded tightly. Baldwin is obviously another story, though.
I forget who it was against but in the final minute of the game, butler needed some big buckets. They went to Baldwin twice and he was awful. He took 2 awful shots.
Not scared of butler at all. They going to get a whupping NYE.
So we are now so good that we should have blown out Arizona and don’t have to worry about the 12th ranked team in the country, one with a very impressive resume? Earth to (some) Johnnies fans!!! Crazy!!
To all who are so positive, I congratulate you on your support of the program. However, if we happen to lose to Butler, please moderate your comments on the board so the moderators don't have to. Thank you.

Even butler was picked to finish 8th. They have been a huge surprise. We have been a surprise too. Time to pack CA
I just mentioned to my 114 friends few minutes ago. If we win this game I’m going to start having visions of Lavins first year
Mike, if you drink the way you say you do you will not have any visions of any year.
