Posts That Exited the SJU Portal Thred

Did he post that on his X account? I didn’t see it but maybe I am just missing it. We are waiting for this like patience on a monument (love me some Uncle Jun!)
Yes, Zagoria posted it on X about 20 minutes ago
He said that Jackson would announce his choice tomorrow afternoon
That must be code for pray that it happens on Tuesday
Adam Zagoria and Hoops Weiss must be brothers from other mothers

Also why has Zach been “silent” on X/publicly about the Jackson stuff ? Thought he was an insider ? Or does he work with the school to not say much on something so large until it’s a lock on a recruit?

Actual newspaper guys close to the team shouldn't be breaking the news before the kid. That's for the Trillys of the world.

Zach knows he's coming.

I just want to get a few things off here because it's been an interesting week in the SJU world with everyone obviously waiting on news of a certain player transferring. In between players entering the portal, and St. John's getting a commitment from Oziyah Sellers, there's been a lot of people / "fans" saying some really demeaning and disrespectful stuff. Mainly this has been on twitter as many of the faceless feel like they can say whatever they want to whoever they want, but I do wish people would try to use some logic.

This is the wild wild west, it's the transfer portal. Nothing is smooth and easy. And because things don't happen doesn't mean they won't. And worst of all is when people get told certain things, from those that know and share it, and it doesn't come to fruition, to vilify them and say XYZ about them is insane.

A handful of people, myself included have heard the player we're all waiting for was "done" more than a week ago. Obviously something hit a snag. Doesn't mean it's not happening. There have been people close to said player who have said announcements were coming and they haven't. Again I say this is the NIL era, we're talking about gigantic contracts with tons of money, tons of other stuff in these contracts that need to get worked out.

Going back to the major haul thing that everyone got upset about because players didn't commit right on the spot, Sellers ended up committing a few days later. Dillon Mitchell is still in the conversation. Ian Jackson is in the conversation. Lee obviously went to Florida...things will be fine and will work out just not on the fans timeline. I get that it's frustrating, and this Ian Jackson stuff has been, I get it, but big contracts in this NIL era with the portal closing in 26 hours or so makes things take a little longer it seems.

Ultimately if Jackson does commit to St. John's will it really have mattered when it was?

Where is the truth who knows? Will we ever really know? Probably not. Things just don't go that smoothly anymore, and fans turning on each other or getting mad at people who share info seems silly. Again not really on here, more on social media, but I just think people gotta keep in mind this isn't 3 years ago and we're not dealing with cut and dry $100,000 NIL deals anymore. We're talking 7 figures now, with agents, lawyers and tons of other stuff in between. Johnnies will be fine.

Also RIP Howie Schwab, 1 year ago today we lost him. Miss my friend dearly. He would have loved this season that we just witnessed.

I heard from my sister's boyfriends cousin who used to go with this guy who was roommates with someone who used to play hackeysack in the quad with this girl who had a connect with the second cousin of the team managers mom and they told her that we are getting 3 commits this week. Mark it down
I heard the same thing from thar guy three weeks ago! I have not seenn him since.

Wow, this post does not inspire confidence. Custer to the troops- don’t lose faith. Reinforcements on the way. Soon. Really. I will bet my life on it!

Zach knows😂😂! The guy who wrote the Sim loyalty article ten days before he bolted?!Really?

The notion that Zach works for the school is even funnier. Ask any fired SJ coach what he thinks of that idea….

Fact is this staff does not leak. Unlike past regimes.

Thank God we have a 72 year old coach who was able to adapt and prosper under this new system. In an instant we've seen salaries (yea, salaries) skyrocket.

A few years ago I asked a dear friend who is a realtor what a waterfront piece of property was worth. He said, "Whatever someone is willing to pay". That's where we are now with NIL.

For the most part I believe, winning is secondary to players to $$ and a place where they can put up numbers (under the guise of thrive). It makes this whole thing crazier than the pros because we have fixed finite careers college now of 4 years, then a mostly unlikely shot at the nba. At least in the nba the outlook can be as much as 20 years in the extreme. In college there is no long term plan for a player. You have 4 years to cash in, however you define cadhing in.

Murkier is where the money comes from. The fates of top NIL schools is now held by a precious few - incredibly wealthy individuals with passive annual incomes that can be in the hundreds of millions. Piss one off, and your program takes a huge hit. So, like it or not, schools have to romance their new franchise owners.

The players going out bother me. I liked them, especially the talented solid citizen types. Who comes in I never fretted over till they were signed sealed delivered.

The value of information thing is a pain in the ass frankly. Lots of people, fans mostly, but some with less important ties to the program then they believe, like to communicate "inside info". I get it, when fans want to know, and you know something, just to project that you know something feeds ego. The only people that are really important are those who pay the bills. That's the reality.

So whether player X Is coming, I don't care a whole lot until he is signed. I know it's important to our record for an upcoming season. But the only really important things in college sports right now is who is coaching the players and who is paying for them. If you have enough players will come.

Those advent and introduction of the huge salary providers have dwarfed everyone else. Think of how one person providing $1-5 million of NIL annually means as much as 500 times what a $10,000 supporter provides.

With rev share, Harvard with a $50 billion endowment, could eadily put a $25 roster on the court to compete for championships. Except for the fact that an ncaa championship would do nothing for the school revenue wise. But they are one of only a handful of schools in their category. Big state schools can and will blow salaries to higher and higher levels till reform puts limits on it.

But I digress. Half of these posts either claiming to know something or chastising people who say they do but don't are just annoying. Both groups are just propping themselves up.

This whole thing sucks. Save for one player, we will begin next season with just one returning top 7 rotation player. No wonder Jay Wright opted for a microphone rather than deal with this. At least I get to listen to a broadcaster who really knows basketball.

Oh that was definitely not my intention nor do I think said commitment won’t happen. Just the fact that it doesn’t happen as quick as people want it to shouldn’t ensue the proverbial fan riots and meltdowns that have occurred

Morning Dave
I read both of your posts and honestly was quite surprised to read the first. I think you could have directed it more to the fans on Twitter but so be it. I think our fans on this board have been very respectful and even keeled for the most part the last few days. Remember this is a fan board and people get high and they suffer lows. Everyone I have spoken with is elated with the players we have brought in to date , disappointed that some really good representatives of the school have chosen to leave and would like to see Ian and a pg commit. All very logical positions. For the greatest part thé only difficulty has been the fans who cannot remain on topic and thank g d for LMF who has spent countless hours sorting through posts and putting them in the correct thread or à more appropriate off topic thread. Thank you LMF. Also a big thanks to all posters who provide as much info as they can. The majority of us understand that it is fluid and if it does not come to pass there was no evil intent or spinning of false information, rather things just change and crap happens. Thé recruiting info provided by Paultzman and others over many à years is greatly appreciated , it is the reason many of us come to the site daily, ok 20 times à day or more. And if fans become upset and have a meltdown if Captain Jack and others do not come on board , so be it , they are entitled to, this is a fan board , as long as their posts respect forum rules they can say what they want and react with their emotions, it has always been and will continue to be that way.
Most of us are intelligent enough to understand that the portal is 1 of the 2 principal reasons behind our recent success, and that we must accept the good with the bad. Wishing everyone a great day and looking forward to additional commitments.
