It was a very stupid hashtag. If you're building a four-day campaign about it, and the person who's starting it is talking on the discord like he has sources and is saying its all happening, then yeah the expectations are going to absolutely build. We're at a place with our program where getting visits from top caliber recruits is the standard, which is a great thing, but not to celebrate/campaign about on social media. Were you not participating with it and asking questions about it on the discord etc
Let people have fun, it united the fanbase for a day...the people who took it too seriously and are bent out of shape over it now:
1. have unrealistic expectations
2. think they are entitled to know everything that is happening
3. think everything that is reported or said online is true
4. are just incapable of using their brains
5. completely irrational.
all is good - good news coming - this roster will be very very very good
Again, the fact that people took a twitter hashtag and placed their entire emotional livelihood on it, says a lot more about them and their inability to be rational than anyone else.It was a very stupid hashtag. The bolded aren't really fair and you know it.
Interesting, I will be honest I completely disagree with this. Were you not participating with it and asking questions about it on the discord etc

my thing with this is... I don't think it is "fun" when random fans pretend like they have info and get others riled up for nothing. I just find it annoying more than anything. Overall yes the Mega Haul thing was mostly harmless, but the people who push it have to understand the backlash is earned. I see this in music discourse too. People say they have sources and say an album is gonna come out on xx/xx/xxxx, then the release date comes and goes. No music. People get mad. It is what it isLet people have fun
You've been pretty laid out why I've avoided social media for the better part of the past 5+ years, especially Twitter. I mean it's been widely known that it's a cesspool there yet people keep returning expecting different results. Social media literally gives lunatics a voice.Interesting, I will be honest I completely disagree with this.
There are fans out there that can be irrational and unrealistic, but putting any fan who is upset about the Mega Haul thing under that umbrella isn't right IMO
Like usual I would say this whole thing got blown way out of proportion, but once again I notice a trend with #SJUBB and such: fans pretend they are insiders
Engagement and attention is the name of the game now online, and fans like to play insider and say stuff is happening when they don't know anything. That is not the fault of fans who then take #MegaHaul seriously and are then let down. I mean maybe they shoulder a little bit of the blame for believing it so easily, but nowadays it is easy to deceive others online. I mean how many times has that loser Rob Reinhart account been posted here?
At the end of the day people need to stop trying to garner clout by pretending like they know what is going on, if they don't know what is going on. Accounts like Y2 are nice in that they are random one off accounts that may actually have sources, but they also invite copycats

Only added my x account back for portal season. Not recommended even in short spurts. lolYou've been pretty laid out why I've avoided social media for the better part of the past 5+ years, especially Twitter. Bingo. The internet is not a real source. Unless you have considered the source don’t believe anything. Honestly, I still can’t believe this upsets or bothers people. If you roll around in the mud you will get muddy. News at 11.You've been pretty laid out why I've avoided social media for the better part of the past 5+ years, especially Twitter. This is the smart way to go about it, but the great conundrum of twitter/X is that you can often get to news/information quicker on there, if you find the right source at the right time.I Just follow the experts and not every yahoo that post their opinion on St. John’s hoops
dk423 and Mug are so valuable to the site. I chat w them frequently and they really know their stuff. Re Trilly/Discord info, I always find them level headed and able to distinguish between credible contributors and loons. Discussing potential fits, needs, etc is great for me as a hoops junkie. Keep it up guys!!!I'm not going to go on about this. Are there people who absolutely overreact, especially on the discord and x, about the haul? Definitely. You can also just say they're extremely passionate St. John's fans.
Getting big recruits to visit great, but we are way past a point as a program to be celebrating it with a hashtag and hype. I fundamentally disagree with you on that. We've had guys visit here in the past 10-15 years who, as you know, were just as highly credentialed and just as rumored to get. It isn't really a thing to be like, "wow we would have never gotten these caliber of recruits to consider us." We were favorites for Whitehead, Lance, Landesberg, Briscoe, Anderson, etc. If anything, this history of being favorited for recruits who visit and then spurn us, feeds into the anxiety/expectations that fans have.
Part of high school recruiting, now portal season, is the "sources" and fake sources, etc. I've found it incredibly interesting and fun to suss through for longer than I'd care to admit. I am not entitled to any information. I actually think many people would agree with me, that we aren't entitled to anything. But some people find it to be a fun quirky thing about college basketball that you don't really get in pro sports. It has always come with the territory, and none of this is new.
What is new, again, is pumping up a fan base for a bunch of visits.
And, on top of that, while we are definitely getting two of the guys, the rest we aren't even sure about. One is a (ever so slight) lean to another school (which, to show how clumsy this hashtag was, some dispute is even part of the haul or not -- LOL), while another has actual qualms about his role with the team. Which is fair enough. But no hashtag = less expectations of things definitively happening.
Yes. But it’s bated.Everyone take a breath yet?
Mega bonus points (worth nothing but LMF's respect) for being one of the rare and special people who uses "bated" correctly as opposed to (incorrectly) "baited."Yes. But it’s bated.

Baited breath is what one has after eating fish for lunch that one reheated in the office microwave.
Bated breath is the mainly archaic abbreviation of "abated" as in "withheld" or "held."
Kudos, Ralphie Three Numbers!

I don't follow anything outside of this site, but I thought the whole MegaHaul thing was pretty stupid. Our fans started that, got themselves amped over it, and then got anxious over it for not happening fast enough.
Just relax, fellas. We have more good news coming soon and there are so many ways we can finish off this roster to be a preseason top 5-10 team after that.
I thought we needed a stud PG when the season ended....I no longer think that after what our roster will look like shortly.
