Post -- Harkless makes history

Moe now listed at #8 in NBAdraft.net 2013 mock draft

Great. As if I don't already have enough to worry about.

He's a lock for the league. Only thing to do is capitalie on it and look for others looking to take the fast track too. It also wouldn't hurt to fatten up the roster to divide up the minutes a bit. This is the Omar Cook story all over again. He played so much he had 8 assists a game and stood out in the crowd. Screwed up his career and our program as well. We've got to have capable subs to stop the "one and done" syndrome.

I knew it would take just one breakout game for someone to lament that he'll be in the NBA next year, and it figures it would be Bobre.

One and dones, or two and dones are symptmatic of programs that recruit NBA caliber talent, not because freshmen are getting too many minutes. If you had the chance to stay in college, or sign a 7 figure contract, or even grab a job at $400 K (roughly the NBA minimum) anyone with a brain would do that.

I'm thinking that if Sean Evans played a little more, he could have been a one and done, and SJU would have been better off for it.

They actually moved him up to 25 last week and had a nice writeup on him. His stock soared after this game. The kid is a future NBA small forward. We heard it before he came, and now it's just coming to fruition.

I'm lamenting the microfocus on one game. If we lose by 50 at UCONN tomorrow and Harkless has 2 points and 10 turnovers, it will be all about how he isn't ready against the best competition, know what I mean? I've been to all but one home game, seen him play, and agree that he's talented. I also saw Bootsy Thornton score 40 in a game, and Hatten score 40+ , and while theyu were good, one game doesn't make a player.

I agree that before its all done he may be in the NBA - but he has a long way to go to prove that.

Rationally correct except that the NBA draft is all about potential so he's closer to ready in scouts eyes than he is to being dominant game in and out in the college game in Coach's eyes if you get what I mean.

Our fanbase is so up and down! I love this kid...I was the first to call him a lottery pick on these boards before the scouting services jumped onboard, but he did that statline against a team that started 6-4,6-6, 6-6!!! He's 6'8 1/2 and is much longer than that. He didn't even have to jump for many of those "tip-to-yourself" rebounds. That won't fly against Uconn or other big teams.

He's also a SF in the NBA, but he hasn't had much of a chance to flash SF skills while playing PF and C for us. Right now his stock is soaring because of exceptional size and length for his position, a solid skillset for his age, and most of all POTENTIAL. Teams are going ot want some questions answered regarding his SF skill next season. They will want a 35% 3-pt shooter, a kid that can defend lightning-quick wings, a kid that is physically ready for the NBA, and a kid that doesn't disappear for stretches or entire games.

Can he answer all those questions next year to the tune of a lottery pick? My guess is no. I think he's here for three years. Funny thing is that the area Sampson has probably hurt us most in is having Moe stand out as prominently and as early has he has!

If we get two good years from Moe we will be in good shape. We should have plenty of talent stock piled going forward. It will also help Lavin on the road showing that he can still get a kid in the lottery.

Except that right now, aside from Darrick Wood -- who didn't sign an LOI and and who's apparently taking a wait-and-see position regarding Lavin's return to coaching (perfectly understandable) -- we don't have any commitments for next year, let alone "plenty of talent stockpiled."

Wood not signing an LOI had ZERO aka NOTHING to do with Lavin's health. Trust me.

I wish Moe and a lot of these young guys could get a chance to take a deep breath, assert themselves for 2-3 years then take the jump to the next stop.

Maybe I am living in the passed, but one great game from Anthony Glover or Tyronne Grant wouldn't catapult them to the Knicks or Nets.

Let's get to enjoy these young guys watch them grow, develop and put some consistent stats up before we usher them into the NBA.

I honestly felt if Allen Iverson could be such a great pro, then Marcus Hatten should have been at least a good pro and that didn't even remotely happen. Wasn't Marcus' game similar to AI's??

Then again I thought Boo Harvey had pro written all over him, go figure.

Okay, I'll trust you on that, Moose. But having Darrick Wood as our lone commitment hardly adds up to a stockpile of talent.

Lavin said he is going to sign 5 in the spring. I have faith. And I assume that if Moe leaves, his ship will go to another talent. I have faith that Lavin will start stock piling talent even if it took longer than we thought.

LOL I can't believe he even said folks are "up and down." As, far as the bolded quote.... LOL The narcissist strikes again!

It's alright, Marillac.  By the way, I'd love for Harkless to be here for four years. Could he be here for 3 years? Possibly. But, the "Association" drafts on potential. So, I could very well see Moe depart after two years, if he continues at the pace he's currently at the moment.
