St. John's forced 24 turnovers, leading to 36 fast-break points. Josh Roberts had 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Will never understand why he didn't play more last year. #sjubb

Our highest scoring game in 21 years. Wow. Can't ask for anything more than that!

My biggest takeaway is that Nick Rutherford must’ve pissed in King Rice’s Cheerios last year.

That will have a lot more credibility if he said it last year. Of that I have no idea because I don’t pay much attention to talking heads, whether they be talking or writing.

He didn’t play because Mullin was coach. Earlington, Caraher and others looked quite good too. Greg Williams was quiet but off injuries as well.

Coaching making a huge difference. Seeing us out the gate, I don’t think we will be a team that continues to make the same mistakes all the time. Mercer also was far from a bad team. They passed well against us, had some shooters and were well coached.

Saw the second half. Lots of guys putting crooked numbers in several different columns in the box score, there was a lot to like. I think the big thing was Mustapha being Option #1 on offense, but it looks like he may have more help than we anticipated.

Great start to CMA era. Do we now start worrying about Earlington declaring for NBA draft? ;)

What a pleasure to watch a real coach with an actual system in place. I wish he coached last years squad imagine what he could have done with that group! If we get Dunn and then Steere next semester might be much better then expected.

Excellent opening game by the entire team. Play most emblematic of the coaching improvement, good rotation by the defense resulting in a Greg Williams attempt at taking a charge up 32 with 27 seconds left. Loved the time out MCNPA referenced when the lead got down to 16, completely righted the ship.

I remember posting before last season that because of his size Roberts would see significant minutes. People in the know here stated that prior staff felt he “needed lots of work” and that his time would be limited. Said we shouldn’t count on him.

We can look at this as an either/or. Either the prior staff was correct and this is just the fruit of last years work or they were dead wrong and wasted a year of this kids eligibility. Hard to tell from the outside. Early to tell but I see improvement.

Gentlemen (and ladies), I don’t know about you, but I feel like a huge gust of fresh air has descended upon this Program. I saw basic fundamental pieces tonight. A competent offensive game plan, predicted upon great defense, but actual half court sets. Defense that was swarming at times, and a clinic on defending the 3 point line over the first 36 minutes of the game. Contributions all over the place, including from unexpected sources.
In short, everything that I have complained about over the past 15+ years were swept away by that wind. Great night!

Only negative for the evening: the 6:30 pm start. que sera...

Otherwise, great win and start for the new era.
I liked the unselfish offensive play...and the hustle on D - keep it up all season and we'll all be satisfied fans, whatever the record ends up being.

Maybe Paul Presley is working wonders on him.

It is also worth noting that generally speaking, the biggest jump in improvement for players is between freshman and sophomore years. Obviously not always but generally.

Loved the team work, intensity etc.

On point, Rutherford came off floor and he clearly said something like Damn, I'm tired !!" with a smile on his face.

Good group.

Interesting. I just went to the box score Knight attached. They didn’t have a minutes breakdown. Coach MA was substituting so freely. Can’t imagine anyone was overused. Just the tempo.

He should be tired. He played his ass off. Honestly, the game ball goes to Rutherford Imho. Looked killer at every end today.
