(POST GAME) Georgetown, Sun., Dec. 20, 6:30p, FS-1 / 570 AM WMCA

The Soul man of the Coleman and the Soul man. Toro did a real good job tonight , he looked relaxed and moved the ball well

I actually think champ and GWill are better natural scorers, but this year reminds me a little of DJ and Paris as sophomores. Paris averaged over 14 a game on a team that struggled and averaged just over 7 on a team that was really good as a senior. DJ went from leading scorer to third scoring option. My point being, I think we can win with them as our #1 and 2 as part of balanced approach but we could be really dangerous if they could be more of a #2 and 3.

One thing we had tonight was a balanced approach. 5 players in double figures. Williams looked great, Champ was Champ and Cole got back on track. Toro provided some much needed defense at the 5, and although only scored 1 pt, looked good. Much needed win.

I wonder if the pressure defense has been retired or was it not utilized because coach felt Geo could handle it and he will use it selectively depending on the opponent? I also wonder if by not utilizing it SJU players SzJU players were fresh and that helped their outside shooting.
Forty five per cent from three is quite impressive for SJU.
Key to tonight’s victory was driving to the basket!
2 keys tonight:

1)They made shots specifically open 3 pointers and
2)They got to play a team that is probably at best equal and at worst inferior to them. Let's face it home or away this was one of the few times SJU will be favored this year,.

Great way to head into the holiday season! Nicely done by CMA and team tonight. Onward and upward...

We won primarily because we shot the ball very well tonight
48% FG percentage, 45% from 3 point land and 81% from the charity stripe
Great to see that we had 5 guys score in double figures - nice balance
Most importantly, we had 19 assists on 30 made baskets - we shared the ball really well
Williams played the game of his college career
Champ quietly got his 20 and nearly a double double
Posh, Moore and Cole were all major contributors
Very encouraged to see Toro played his best game as a Johnnie
Very nice win - something to build on
GO JOHNNIES!!!!

I don't expect this from GW every night, but if he can split the difference between tonight and his ppg coming into tonight, it'll be a huge help to the team going forward. As was said in a different thread by several other posters, we need him to look for his shot more.

I'm not sure why it happens, but the guys are having problems holding big leads. It seems like they relax and get careless after a big run and a timeout. The 16 point lead became a 2 point game early in the second half. Great response by our guys, but we need to be a team of runs on offense, and not allow giving back the lead on defense.

I would like to see some better decision making based on game situations. Today it was Wusu with a bad pass late in the game, trying to hit a teammate on the fly. At that point, take your time and protect the ball. The clock was Georgetown's enemy. For Wusu, it was a freshman mistake. On another steal very late in the game, Posh gets a pass or steal near midcourt and someone from the bench (I'm guessing a coach) is hollering "Go Go Go". is the strategy to keep our foot on the pedal up 12 with 2 minutes to go?
Happy for the solid effort and win. Also, happy to silence the pervasive negativity on this board. Let these guys have time to develop, please.
Thanks. These young kids, many teenagers, are better served “with an encouraging word”.
Healthy and happy holiday season to all!

Home on the Range
Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

Chorus Home, home on the range,
Where the deer and the antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
Going to bed happy tonight! Greg, Posh, Moore, Champ & Cole were all good tonight and some nice minutes from Toro.
I like this team and expect steady improvement as they get to know each other better. Not expecting miracles but do think they can win against Depaul & Butler and pull a few surprises especially towards the end of the year.
Just as they improved last season and played their best ball towards the end - maybe that will be our trend under Mike Anderson.
Maybe our conditioning and hard driving attitude will give us the stamina to wear opponents down.
Go St. John’s - to all the players THANKS and you and your families enjoy the holidays

A great and much needed win. You can tell the team played with a lot more energy and purpose tonight. They shot well and were aggressive on offense. Driving a lot which lead to open shots. This is how they have to play. As long as they continue to get better on defense and play to their strengths, like not always settling for jumpers, they will be able to win some games.

Love how G will has been playing. Smart efficient player who gets after it on both ends of the floor. Improving every season and I really think he will have a great year this year and an even better year next as a senior.

It was our first absolutely must win game and the team responded well. We are fortunate to have drawn Georgetown at home so early.

It will be interesting to see how homecourt advantage influences outcomes with no fans present. I suspect more than you would think.

Nice effort. GW appears capable of breaking out as a reliable scorer. If he can be counted on to consistently put 12 to 15 ppg on the score sheet, obviously a career night for him, but to me the signs are there that he can break away from the pack to be a solid player going forward.

Concerned a little about Posh not protecting the ball when he takes it to the hole. Maybe just some bad decisions and maybe correctable. Overall he is progressing well in his freshman year with a lot on his shoulders.
