Always better to correct and improve coming off a 30 point win.

A couple of points.
1- Some seemed concerned with Sears. Keep in mind big guys like him will need to adjust to the quicker pace. He’ll get there. Give him time. This is exactly why it would be beneficial if Steere was eligible sooner, rather than later. The more he plays the better he’ll be.

2- Need to work some on help defense in the middle. We had a few parting of the Red Sea in the first half. All good but there are some things to work on.

Once again, very happy with this win! Heron has been extremely impressive.

Post Game Press Conference

Zach B " Coach how do you stay motivated in the 2nd half when your team is up 30 points "

Coach Anderson " That's easy. My goal is to get Delaware on Redmen.com to say something nice during their game threads " :)

Two 30 point wins to begin the season I'll take it. Team seemed to come out of that 2nd half very focused and immediately blew the game open with that pressure. It was a 3pt game and then 4 minutes later it was a 23 point game. We haven't had a team that could flip the switch like that in awhile. Encouraging.

My negatives:
Too much penetration, especially in the first half, which led to open shots on kick outs. That won't fly when the competition gets faster/stronger/better.
In the 2nd half with like 9 or 10 minutes left Williams & Rutherford both had 4 fouls and they had Heron & LJ bring the ball up with weirdly Earlington helping when there was pressure. Anyone else see that? Would have been nice to have Dunn or McGriff available as an extra ball-handler there.
Free Throws...8-15

Positives:
Good energy throughout.
Good adjustments from the 1st half to 2nd half.
Mustapha looks different. He looks like a 1st round pick. He's locked in I think.
Suddenly I'm very excited to watch 3 more seasons of Josh Roberts.
I think Champagnie was a steal by the staff. 10 pts. 8 rebounds. 3 steals. 2 blocks. And as was mentioned in the game thread he had 2 or 3 shots that were in and out. If someone told us 3 months ago that Champagnie was going to start and contribute as much as he has as a freshman we'd all be thrilled.
Good to see Sears out there being effective. Rugged.

Good win!

Did not get to watch any of the game, but looking at box score loved to see:

1. Heron with another great game - fully expect him to be very close to first team all BE this year;
2. Sears with 8 and 11 in 14 minutes - rumors of his demise from game 1 were greatly exaggerated;
3. Champagnie also with great stats - like Greg Williams & Roberts, should be excellent 4 year player.

Looking forward to watching New Hampshire game on Tuesday night!

Another nice win. I'm start doing 3rd best player of the game, we all know Heron & LJ are far and away the best on the team.

Champagnie: 10pnts, 8boards, 3stls, 2blcks, 1assist, in 24minutes

Game 1: Rutherford
Game 2: Champagnie

Only SJU team that I remember putting serious beatings on cupcakes, was the Barkley, Artest teams, that didn't toy with them. They would just end the game quick.
That's how you do vs. cupcakes.
I expect another 30pnt win vs. New Hampshire, before a real contest vs. Vermont.

Enjoyed the game
Like to see larger crowds. Probably next Saturday

Great to see Louie and many former players come out at halftime

Heron is locked in. Champagne solid
Was hoping more from carraher

Boxscore has Roberts with 2 offensive rebounds, did they stop counting after the first possession? He had at least 5.
Loving the new coach thus far, he's coaching, not trying to be the players' friend, like the last guy. Just ask Greg Williams after the first half.
I was skeptical about Rutherford, he's starting to win me over.

Roberts seemed sooo raw last year but coaching makes a difference. Now he looks like he’s only scratching the surface and could become a beast by his senior season. I’m starting to get a feeling like he may end up being an all league type by the time he’s done here. Sky is the limit athletically and he’s not close to awkward any more.

He is all in...during one sequence, he blocked a shot resulting in a transition for SJ and immediately raced down court ...doesn’t seem to complain or whine and doesn’t look to force a shot just because the ball is in his hands...really like him

Nice!

Watched from the middle of the 2nd half and they looked good later caught the 1st half and they looked bad if the were playing a BE team we would have been down by a dozen
Caraher still does show me much against BE comp think he will struggle hope I am wrong
Really need a big guy up front like STEERE THINK HE WILL MAKE A BIG DIFF ALONG WITH DUNN AND WE ARE A MUCH BETTER TEAM

Was at the game and saw what predicted about 25 minutes/15 minutes. When they are good they are very enjoyable. The second half by and away had a great 20 point run. I was disappointed that so many fans came wearing costumes as they dressed as "empty seats".
J and J are like the Dynamic Duo. They both run the floor well, get out on the break and hit the boards. I watched Julian on defense today and was impressed with his footwork. His length and quickness are excellent in the fullcourt pressure. When in the defensive end he shows awareness not only of his own man but of the ball movement beyond what you expect of a frosh on defense.
I was glad to see Sears have some success today after Mercer-he needed a confidence booster.
Overall the team continues to get more shots per game (76 today).

Blunt takeaways:

1. In a game vs. A team like CC, multiple guys should appear heads and tails above the competition - because they are supposed to be. Heron was that all night, LJ in 2nd half. Champagne may be a big east player, Roberts too.

2. Ten of LJ 's 16 shots were beyond the arc. While he made 5 of 10, would prefer he doesn't set up 25 feet away on offense.

3. Roberts can block shots, looks improved, and more in control.

4. Halfcourt defense allowed too many wide open shots, especially on rotations. Butler would have sliced up our defense with wide open looks.

5. Heron is poised to have a monster year if more than LJ can take the heat off of him. Better teams will gang up on him and we will see how we respond to that.

6. Not much ball pressure so hard to see if not starting a true point is something we can overcome.

Very nice start. Hopefully we see guys stepping up to better completion that's only 6 weeks away

Central Connecticut State Head Coach Donyell Marshall

On St. John’s…

“The ‘40 minutes of hell’ is trying to get you to play selfish, to play one-on-ones, to try to take bad shots so they can go out. First half, we moved the basketball, we played as a team and it was a six-point lead. Second half, we cut it to three at the end of the half and played right into their hands.”
